I've Been Thinking

Just a quick rant on Kento bc I'm watching Good Doctor and I realized once again why I love him. But first, have a cute pic of him bc I'm about to get rough with my words.

Okay so, Kento is an amazing actor, obviously. He's played so many roles with absolute conviction that it's hard not to love him. But I really hate it when people choose to only typecast him as Arisu from Alice in Borderland and fail to see beyond that show. Fail to see how good of an actor he really is. Yes he's played Arisu really well, and yes there isn't anyone who could have done it better. But there's so many people these days who seem too fixated on that particular role of his, and just don't want to see how he's also acted in multiple other dramas and movies and how good he's at portraying every single on of them.

People forget that he has played Shindo Minato. They forget how hard it is to play an autistic person with so much conviction it moves you to tears.

They forget he's played Dojima Otaro, a character so hot he has all his fans on their knees, while being so annoyingly narcissistic you can't help but want to slap him. Kento is naturally cute and friendly, so playing such a character must have been hard.

They forget he's played Nagata, his most mature role ever, portraying a man who's toxic but for whom you can't help but feel sympathy, because you see yourself in him too.

They forget he's played Aoi, a mentally-disturbed boy who has violent fits and is living with the guilt of having murdered a person. A boy who was trapped in his house by his family for 8 years and is now just the shell of the bright soul he once used to be.

They forget he played Yuuki, a guy so cheerful and so optimistic he's way too different than what Kento really sees himself as.

They forget he has played Hirotaka, a character that's so different from him that Kento almost looks like a totally different person.

The forget about Shin, the role which took so much effort on Kento's part that he started crying by the time it wrapped up. The role for which he underwent extensive training and a strict diet.

They forget about his L, they forget about his Tomura, they forget about his Akutsu Ryo, and so, so many more roles he has done absolute justice to.

They choose to only see him as Arisu. I mean, yeah, AiB brought him a hell lot of fame, but that doesn't mean you get to typecast him. Say, for example, we know Lee Jung-Jae for having played Seong Gi-hun, but that doesn't mean we're forgetting that he is already a highly established actor who has proven himself more than once. Doesn't Kento deserve the same?

These days my mooties and anons have been asking me for Kento recs, and it really makes me happy seeing them want to watch something other than AiB. Especially 🫒anon and 🧸anon. Kento is an awesome actor, and deserves to be known for all his roles instead of just one.

There's also another thing.

People choose to consider Dori Sakurada and Tao Tsuchiya to be Kento's best friends, without even considering that he might be close to someone else too.

Sure, I'm actually a fan of Dori too. And Kento is great friends with Dori and they're neighbors and everything else. Dori considers himself to be Kento's parent, and for good reason too, because Kento is almost like a kid who always needs help with something or the other. And I'm really glad Dori is always there to help him out and take care of him.

But what they fail to see is that since way before he knew Dori, Kento has been best friends with Masaki Suda. They feel to see that the person whom Kento refers to as "Suda-san" has been with him in some of his most embarassing moments (the "erotic underwear" incident tops that list lmao), and that he has actually referred to him as "mom" on live TV. They fail to see how happy Kento looks with him, and how he actually looks after him like an elder brother. How he scolds Kento for going to the washroom on live radio, but smiles at him like a proud dad when he hits a high note while singing Sayonara Elegy.

They fail to see that he's so close to him that he even included him and Amane Okayama in his first ever photobook, and that too in a collage of the things and people he's closest to (which also included images of his dog and even his family).

And don't even get me started on the shipping. It has only worsened since AiB and it's getting tiring. Okay sure, Kento has great chemistry with Tao and they're good friends too. But do we know that they're dating for real? No, and neither do we have any right to know. And don't we ask people who ship idols to keep their fantasies to themselves because it can make things awkward between said idols? Then what makes people think it's okay to go about shipping two actors? Even if they are dating, that's their personal life and we have no right to speculate. I hate it when people just make every Kento (or Tao) thing a KenTao thing, and just start shipping them without any proper context.

If they had announced that they were dating for real and had asked us for support, then it would honestly have been nice to see so many people giving them love. But since they haven't come out and said anything about it, I feel it's rude to speculate. If they're dating, we have no right to pry, and if they're not, we have no right to make them uncomfortable like that. I not only feel bad for Kento, but for Tao too. People are too delusional istg.

I might sound harsh but I'm spitting facts. Periodt.
