This is Monument fire the is in Northern California. This photo was taken as the fire came down the mountain heading towards my town. We are working to save it. I don’t normally say stuff like this and would normally never say my location in a post but please keep Hayfork California in your thoughts, prayers, or anything like that. We are just a small town. The high school has barely 70 kids total.

Think of the fork

Feel free to share if you want to spread awareness about one of California’s wildfires. No the Monument Fire isn’t a threat to any major cities like the Dixie Fire or some others but it’s burning massive amounts of the Trinity National Forest. It is dangerously close to my home in Hayfork, California. Smoke has covered our blue skies for almost 2 months now. A little awareness spread about what’s happening would be nice.

I know I’ve made another post about this before but please keep Hayfork, California in your thoughts. The fire has gotten worse here. The fire crews have told people in town that our town is going to burn while they come into our stores. They tell us to keep open and that we are safe while on live television but will come into stores and say we are gonna lose it all. Everyday I hear it and I have to keep a calm face while I work my shift. They focus on the bigger cities and towns when the fire is 7 miles from them but won’t do everything they can when it’s less than a mile from my town. I know there isn’t much anyone can do but please at least keep my home in your thoughts.

Southwest fires slowly (but surely) getting contained

monument Officials told the last of the evacuees from this fire that they can return home today. That's the good news. The bad news: Though firefighters hope to declare potential victory soon, the fire is only 59 percent contained and may keep burning until mid-July.

wallow That one is still burning. The largest active fire in the U.S. and the largest in Arizona's history, it's currently around half the size of Rhode Island. A highway around the area is open now, but homes are still being evacuated. This fire is about 60 percent contained. source

It was pretty much a repeat of last night. We burned another block surrounded by dozer lines. So now there are only a few more blocks to complete before the North West side of the Monument fire is buttoned up. It is a big deal to get the Northwest side sealed up since the winds are out of the Southwest and have been pushing the fire towards the Northwest into town.

Also just like last night we had a few hours to kill before we were released from night shift. We spend alot of time just talking to kill the time. We play games like bang, kill, marry, green glass doors, a trip around the world, and we have riddles for each other. We also just get to know each other quite well. That is the thing with this job, one shift can be the hardest you have ever worked in your life, while the next shift can be spent waiting around. We definitely work more shifts working our asses off then sitting around, but when we do get to sit around we cherish it.

I have been spending alot of time lately thinking about the future lately. For those of you that don’t know Amy and I are planning on moving out to San Diego this winter to go to go to grad school at SDSU. I get excited every time I think about our new beginning. Only have to get through 3 more months of fire season…

Update on the Monument Fire

My house did not burn down! There was one lost on our street, but it was about a block south of us. One road east it looks like a bomb was dropped, and I'm not exaggerating. I would have taken pics, but felt weird about taking pics of peoples' destroyed homes after I have so much to be grateful for. The worst of our damage is some mild smoke damage and having to throw everything in the fridge out since the power's been out. Thank you so much to everyone who has kept me and mine constantly in their thoughts and prayers. We're not out of the woods yet, but for the first time things are looking up!
