Natural Bridges National Monument
Time to talk stratigraphy! This is a shot of the canyon edge of Natural Bridges National Monument. Observe the layers of red sediment in the distance (these are Triassic deposits). The cream colored deposits below are from the far older Permian period. It is these deposits from the Cedar Mesa Sandstone that form the canyons that make up the most iconic parts of the monument. The uplift of this site is the result of the Monument Upwarp that runs north to south in Southern Utah.
