"Whoa." He turned and saw Aiden and Jackson whispering quietly by the window. A small breeze blew through the curtains, carrying a faint smell of the coming storm.
"Problem?" Jackson cocked his head, catching Ethan's gaze. Aiden rolled his eyes nudging the blonde.
"Nothing, just a cold chill." Grabbing his jacket he headed for the door. "I'm going for a walk." Passing through the living room he waved at Stiles and Lydia, who were arguing over dinner, again.
Both lanes down the street were completely deserted as clouds rolled in over head. In the distance Ethan could make out the flashes of lightning and the dull boom of thunder. He turned down the street away from the other homes to the woods surrounding them. Tall dark trees stretched above him to the dark clouds above him as he passed the threshold. Despite the jacket he felt another cold chill creep across his skin as he turned down a familiar path.
He didn't get too far when the whipped up around him bring the scent blood. The coppery taste filled his mouth as he shifted his eyes to see in the dark. His senses picked out he trail flowing from deeper in the woods. Slowly he made his way down the hunter's trail keeping his ears trained for he smallest sounds. Ethan stopped completely when he realized he heard none. The woods, being close to a residential area, still had its fair share of critters that would scamper along the fallen limbs or birds perched whistling away in the trees.
The silence seemed to push in around him when he heard someone scream for a slit second. He barely caught it before it was drowned out a by gurgle. Then all at once there was a sound of several limbs breaking and the tearing of muscle and skin. His sense exploded with the smells of death and blood. Ethan's claws and fangs slid into place as he edged closer to where he heard the noises.
As he got closer to the smell, Ethan saw that trees had fallen over each other in a perfect ring. Climbing over the one in front of him a flash of lightning illuminated the scene. Bodies and limbs were strewn all over a cratered section of the forest floor. He scrunched his nose when he wind gusted up the stench of burning metal and flesh.
Ethan pulled himself over the tree and slide down past what was left someone's leg and foot. He walked towards the center where a faint light pulsed in the dark. With each step he took the light pulsed faster in a steady rhythm, matching the sudden pounding in his head. His breath caught as he got to the edge and he was face to face with a small fox.
A large blast of light pushed Ethan, knocking him backwards. Sputtering in the dirt he rolled back over and watched the silver light slowly fade into the darkness. He picked himself back up as a loud crack of thunder split the sky, shaking Ethan down to his bones. Carefully he walked back to where the light had appeared only this time there was no animal but a man. Several silver tails extended out of his back side. What was left of his clothes were ripped and covered in dirt and blood. He forward, claws ready, when the man suddenly gasped for air and sat up.
Coughing he turned towards Ethan, his eyes glowing silver. The man noticed Ethan's sharp claws and dark red eyes and tried to crawl away.
"Get.. away from .. me..." He struggled to his feet and hobbled to the edge of he smaller crater he lie in. The man stopped when another bolt of lightning traced across the sky lighting up the clearing. All the bodies were on full display and Ethan could detect the scent change in the man from fear to total confusion.
"What happened?" His voice cracked as he slowly looked around the crater at the bodies. When he finally turned towards Ethan, the wolf noted how the man already had less tails.
"Did you do this?" The man shied away, the remaining tails bristling out.
"No, I got here and there was giant mess and then... you." Ethan gestured around him as he spoke.
"So I did this." He crouched down and Ethan watched as all but one tail shimmered out. Ethan could feel the man's sadness radiating off and into him.
"We should get you out of here." Ethan walked over as he removed his jacket.
"Where are we?" The man looked up, his once silver eyes, were now brown.
"Beacon Hills. My name is Ethan." He reached down and helped the man to his feet.
"Dan.. No, Daniel...," he gripped the side of his head. "wait, no its Danny."
"Well Danny, lets get you away form here." Ethan grabbed Danny's arm to wrap around his neck for support. He couldn't believe how hot Danny's body felt.
"Thank you." Danny said quietly as he leaned into Ethan.
They didn't say much more as Ethan walked them both up the crater and out of the woods. Before he went back out on the street he scanned the area and the homes for any prying eyes that might see him carry a blood covered half naked man out of the trees. Satisfied he continued the few blocks back to his house.
