Virgil woke up to a tickling sensation on his nose. His face scrunched up and he blew a loose feather off his face.
"Ugh... Roman, you're molting again." The anxious side groaned, gently hitting the princely figure's chest with his palm in an attempt to wake him.
Roman barely moved, responding with a light grumble. He had gorgeous white wings that faded into a deep cherry red that were wrapped tight around his sleeping frame.
The feathers ruffled, and Roman made a face of discomfort as a multitude of feathers fell from the wings. A few landed in Virgil's face, which he promptly blew away.
He rested there a few moments more before sitting up in the bed, stretching and taking in the amount of feathers that now littered their bed.
"Hm." Virgil hummed, shifting to nudge Roman awake.
"Wake up sleeping beauty..." He murmured, pressing a gentle kiss to Roman's cheek. He groaned, eyes slowly fluttering open. His emerald green pupils turned on their own, and when they met with Virgil's, a clear smile spread over his face.
"Good morning, Scaramore." He spoke, clear in his voice that he was still waking up. He shifted to cup Virgil's cheek, wings spreading out behind him. More feathers collected on the bed as he carefully sat up. When fully up, he leaned in close to Virgil, nuzzling their noses before sharing a quick, sweet kiss.
"Morning. I'm not cleaning up your feathers again, so this whole mess is on you." Virgil spoke after they broke from the kiss. He gently rubbed Roman's cheek with his thumb, letting out a light laugh as the prince pouted.
A soft hum could be heard out in the lush garden. There were rows and rows of roses that lined a small square of yard. Each bush boasted its gorgeous buds, the flowers blooming beautifully.
A gloved purple hand cupped one of the red roses in his palm, smiling fondly as he felt over one of the larger petals.
"Beautiful..." He muttered, gently plucking the bud from the bush. He then made his way to the center of the garden where the humming was coming from, plucking thorns off the stem as he walked.
Within the center of the garden there was a fountain, a white bench, a bird bath, and a wooden gazebo with a seat swing that was adorned with soft pillows. Also on that swing was a charming man, humming a tune as he watched the birds.
The man on the swing perked up when he noticed the other entering the small area, the tune coming to a stop as he stood from the swing to go greet him.
"Hello, my dark and stormy night." He greeted, kissing the man softly before pulling back with a gentle smile.
The man with the purple gloves smiled as well, presenting the rose to him. "They're growing in beautifully... I plucked this one just for you."
The charming man smiled, gladly taking the rose and admiring its dainty petals.
"Oh, it's wonderful..." He breathed, taking in a breath of the flower's fragrance and sighing happily.
The other just smiled more, letting out a startled laugh when there was a tug on his arm that guided him to the swing.
The two of them sat together, nuzzling into each other's side and watching the sky. One with the flower clutched tight in his hand, the other resting his hands in his lap.
Gradually, the humming picked up once more, and the two sat together like that until the sun set.
The smell of blossoms was fresh in the air. A tall figure clad in pink breathed in the smell as he plucked tiny buds from the earth. Spring was a lovely scent.
There were newly growing leaves on trees, flowers sprouting anywhere they could reach, fresh fruit in the trees, and cherry tree petals dancing in the wind. It was perfect.
A sudden chill hit his cheeks however, and his head whipped around, petals falling from his hair.
An all too familiar figure was standing knee deep in soft, white, fluffy snow. Just on the other side of a long border was Winter. Dead leaves trapped under mountains of snow, wilted flowers crying for sunlight.
Despite the stark contrast of their seasons, the pink figure made his way closer to the colder section, smiling as the faint sound of humming reached his ears.
A blue figure dawning a beautiful icy blue dress and dark glittering cape was tending to the trees, brushing snow from their branches.
"Beautiful singing." The pink one said with a smile, startling the blue one who turned to the other with a fond smile.
"Hello Roman." He hummed, trudging through the snow to meet him at the border.
"Looks pretty chilly today." Roman commented, waving his hand to brush away a petal that fell into his face.
The blue one giggled, his breath visible in the air. "I suppose so. Looks like the flowers are growing in nicely on your side."
The pink one smiled fondly, cheeks only getting pinker. "I plucked something from my personal garden just for you today, Patton."
Patton smiled, the blue on his cheeks also gaining a pink tint. "For me?"
Roman grinned, lowering himself to his knees and presenting a blue rose to the man. "It reminded me of your beauty."
He stood in stunned awe at the flower before melting into a big grin, extending his hand forward for the rose, which was gingerly placed in his palm.
As he pulled the flower from Spring to Winter a delicate frost coated it from the stem to the tip of every last petal.
Patton smiled sadly, kissing the now frozen flower. "I will take good care of it... I promise."
"I would expect nothing less from you." Roman sighed as he stood, lovingly gazing at the man in front of him.
Patton extended his free hand across the border, which Roman quickly took into his own hands and squeezed gently.
A soft kiss pressed to his knuckles, and then they're pulling away, promising to meet with each other once again at another time, returning to their work.
The blue one moved to the middle of a small forest of trees, planting the blue rose in the dirt where he knew the most sunlight would reach it.
"I love you, my sweet rose..." Patton muttered, kissing its petals once more and going back to tend to the trees, humming quietly to himself.
I ran out of energy for this one, but I still think they're cute <3
Fic beneath the cut :)
Patton hummed as he whipped up some frosting, inhaling the lovely aroma of vanilla in the air.
He had taken up baking recently, and his boyfriend had always been more than willing to help him. Whether that be icing, decorating, or sprinkling on some extra pizazz to his delicious treats, he was always thankful to have him there.
While some cookies baked in the oven, Roman was piping little pink dollops of frosting onto a freshly iced strawberry cake.
Patton moved to peer over his shoulder as he worked, scooping a small fingerful of icing from his bowl and booping it onto Roman's nose.
The princely figure was a bit startled, ceasing all activity to stare wide-eyed forward in surprise before turning to face Patton. A light laugh sounded from him and he removed the icing that was on his nose.
Patton just giggled, squealing a little when Roman playfully chased after him with his piping bag, trying to return the favor of an iced nose.
“hey, look at me. i’m not going anywhere.” with Virgil
It's been a little while since I've written anything but I'm in the mood to write.

It was a normal day for the most part. As normal as it can get for Virgil. The anxious side could be found perched on counters and tables about the house. He was either biting at his nails or messing with the strings of his jacket as he scrolled mindlessly through his phone.
It was difficult to tell just by looking at him if there was something bothering him in the deeper corners of his mind. Granted there was always something to be worried about when you were him. Forgetting to turn off the stove, lock your car, lock the doors and windows of your home. The fear of whether there was someone already in your home because you could hear the noises of what were reminiscent to footsteps but you know you live alone.
Virgil let out a groan. He shoved his phone deep into the pocket of his jacket and he stomped his way upstairs, eyes flicking back and forth as he ascended. He needed new scenery. He had already switched between the kitchen counters, the top of the fridge, the coffee table and the back of the couch at least a hundred times. He wasn't sure that he wanted to see the familiar comforting look of his dark room. While the slightly opened door beckoned him, he turned his gaze away. He wanted to look at something different.
He trekked through the halls before coming to a sudden stop. His eyes darted up to the door of the room he had stopped beside. It was just like any other door in the hallway, except there was a green tint. Not to mention a large, sword shaped engraving on the front.
He wasn't sure why he felt the need, he and the Duke were usually on rocky terms, but his hand moved to the handle and he twisted it open, cautiously taking a step into the room.
He was immediately overwhelmed by the scent of a salty lake that was overrun with algae and full of dead fish. He choked on the smell but still pushed forward. Remus' room was by no means small. It was easy to get lost in there if you were not careful, due to its ever changing nature.
Eventually the smell either faded or Virgil's nostrils became accustomed to it, because it was no longer a bother to the anxious side. What was the real bother was that Virgil could not find a place to sit or a person to talk to.
"Maybe he's not in here." Virgil muttered to himself, silently cursing himself for even thinking it was a good idea to come in here.
"The most unpredictable side lives in this place and I came in here to sit down. The chances of being eaten by the thing I sit on is dangerously high, so why here of all places." He grumbled.
He bit at his thumbnail anxiously. Stupid...
Still, as he continued to search, he found nothing. Though he never felt compelled to leave. Why was a mystery to him. He could've been sitting already, having a great chat with Logan about space, or Roman about Disney movies, or Patton about literally anything...
Maybe it was because he missed the memories. Deep in the pit of his stomach there were butterflies. He felt sick at the thought of leaving without even at least saying hello.
Even with that dread in his stomach he turned in the direction of the door. And there, now in front of him, was a side with a crazed look in his eyes, a wide dopey smirk, and an obnoxiously green outfit.
"What, leaving already? We haven't even talked yet!" Remus cackled, grabbing Virgil's wrists and dragging him in the opposite direction of the door.
Virgil wanted to protest but then quickly settled, following the Duke as he pulled on his arms.
"What brings you to my room, Emo?" Remus asked, he head turning back to look at Virgil.
The anxious glanced back and he could tell the door was slowly growing further and further away from them. He fixed his attention back on the side pulling his arms. "Needed new scenery..." He muttered, eyes widening and looking down when he noticed the Duke making eye contact.
"Well have you come to the right place!" Remus cheered. And with a snap of his fingers the room shifted. The walls curled in on themselves and the ground beneath them both almost felt like it was tempted to swallow them whole. The room became smaller and there was a clear bed to the left side of the room. The walls were an obnoxious neon green that seemed to shift to a darker shade every second then back to the brighter color. The floor had become a tall, shaggy carpet that felt like hands trying to grab at your ankles whenever you walked.
The Duke led Virgil to sit on the bed and he kept a wide grin on his face. For once, he sat completely silent.
Virgil bit at his bottom lip and curled up on himself, unsure what to say. He got different scenery for sure, and he had found the side he had been looking for. But what was he supposed to do about conversation? There wasn't anything he particularly wanted to talk about.
Perhaps he just felt a pang of nostalgia, a feeling of yearning for his past. A longing for a moment like the two used to share ages ago.
He missed Remus.
He wouldn't tell him directly, but that was the truth. He missed the strange, quirkiness of his talk and just the sound of his voice. He just needed to sit and listen to him for a moment...
"I came to talk to you," he said, tensing as he waited for the reaction.
The Duke broke into a huge grin, clapping his hands. "Oh joys! What are we talking about?" He asked, expression crazy as ever.
Virgil bit at his thumbnail. "You choose..." He muttered under his breath, though the intrusive side seemed to pick up on the answer.
"Giving me free will, hm? Well warning you now, you're in for a real rodeo!" He cackled and next thing Virgil knew Remus was talking his ears off.
He allowed himself to relax in the sound of the Duke's voice, a small, fond smile coming to rest on his face.
Virgil sat there for the rest of the day, just listening to Remus talk. He didn't register a lot of what he was saying, but he would slip a small comment or remark every so often into the conversation, which made the Duke grin ear to ear.
It was about as chill as it could get with Remus leading the conversation. Eventually, the topic switched to something that pulled at the heart strings. Somehow, they found themselves on the topic of the past. Living together, the three of them. Virgil, Remus, and Janus.
"Those were the good old days, huh..." Remus muttered with what appeared to be a twinge of sadness in his smile.
That caused Virgil’s heart rate to spike. He got really fidgety, and he bounced his leg up and down as his breath got fast-paced and sporadic.
"No, no, no... I can't. I don't. I never wanted to leave you behind..." Virgil muttered, cutting Remus' reminiscing short.
The Duke hesitated for a mere moment before taking the anxious side's hands into his own. When Virgil didn't attempt to pull his hands away, Remus moved closer. "Hey, look at me. I'm not going anywhere."
Virgil tightened his grip on Remus' hands, eyes shakily making their way up to meet with the Duke's. "When you left, sure, it stung. A lot. It stung for all of us. It hurt. We don't have to be forced away from each other anymore. You know that. I'm always just a knock on the door away from a visit. Hell, you came to visit me out of your own free will! That's why we're sitting here!" Remus ran the pads of his thumbs over the backs of Virgil's hands in a comforting manner. That paired with the words coming from the Duke's mouth did wonders to calm him.
Virgil glanced up when he felt Remus' forehead press against his own, and he smiled weakly. It had been a while since they talked, but now they didn't have anything keeping them from sitting and talking for hours like how things used to be.
"You can stick around as long as you like. Even if you don't have anything to say." Remus told him, his voice unusually soft. "I will always be here to listen to anything you spout out."
Virgil took comfort in the promise. He felt a wave of nostalgia wash over him. It was a familiar promise. Similar to one he had heard Remus make before.
And he knew that promise would be kept. Even more so now that they had the choice to be near the other.
Maybe it'd be a long time before Virgil came by to visit Remus again. Only reason he had today was for a change of pace in his daily routine. But he made a mental note of what Remus had said, about not going anywhere. He had plenty of time to revisit the Duke and listen to his rambles. And what better time than the present, right? He wanted to sit there and listen to his rambles for hours on end.
It wasn't exactly the same as the past that Virgil had been yearning to reconnect with, but it was as good a start as any. It was a sweet, familiar feeling to be there with Remus in this exact moment, and he wouldn't trade that feeling for the world.
A/N: Warning, it is a little sad, but I tried to get the fluff in there at the end <3

As days passed, work droned on. They both knew their jobs were important. It insured that each season ran properly in the human realm. But all the two could think of was each other, and how they yearned to be together.
There were two very distinct temperatures on each side of their border, Winter being cold, and Spring being warm.
They would meet there together as soon as the work day ended, holding hands and exchanging loving words.
However one day, that wasn't enough for Winter. He yearned to be closer to his love, Spring. So without a second thought to it, he crossed the border that divided them, the heat already pounding down on him.
He shook it off, trudging through the plush leaves and flowers that littered the ground, coloring it pink.
"Goodness... I had no idea it'd be quite so warm..." Patton muttered to himself, feeling as though he was melting under the hard gaze of the sun.
He took to his knees, resting in the shade of a helpful cherry tree, head coming to lay on the trunk.
"I will only be a moment... then I will come and find you my love..." He shut his eyes, the heat lulling him into a deep sleep.
When Winter awoke, he found himself laying in fluffy light blue snow. He sat himself up, hand coming to his forehead. He turned when he heard a gasp of relief.
"Oh thank the stars you're alright!" A pink figure sitting beside him exclaimed, moving closer and taking his hand. "I found you passed out beneath one of the cherry trees, and took you back to your half as soon as I saw you."
Winter frowned, hand gently squeezing Spring's. "I was coming to see you..." He explained, pressing their foreheads together.
Spring, Roman, shut his eyes as their foreheads met, holding his hands tight. "You know I come to visit you at the border every night... could you not have waited an hour more? At least then, you would have been safe."
Patton shook his head, arms wrapping around Roman's neck. "No, I wanted to be with you. Playing in the fields of flowers and holding each other close."
Spring frowned at this. "You could've died in the heat from just a few minutes on my side. I do not want to risk losing you for a few mere minutes."
Winter thought on his words then reluctantly sighed. "I understand."
---
For a few days, their routines returned to normal, with them completing their daily tasks and meeting at night at the border.
One fateful night, Winter came to the border with a plan.
"Join me on my side." Patton pleaded, hands holding Roman's to his chest.
"Will I not freeze, and wilt away like my precious flowers?" He questions, eyes filled with yearning along with worry.
"I am able to take care of each lovely bud you have gifted to me. I am certain that I can keep you safe. It doesn't have to be for very long." He said in an attempt to coerce him, eyes shining with longing.
Eventually Spring relents, timidly stepping into the fluffy snow.
For the first few moments everything is fine, but then frost began to form on Spring's delicate skin.
Not wanting to have to separate so soon, Winter pulls Spring to a patch of trees. The two step into a small garden like area, full of frozen flowers.
"This is always the warmest place in my region. Surely you will be okay here." Patton explains, thumb gently touching a patch of frost on Roman's cheek.
Spring flinches a bit as the frost spreads and Winter is quick to remove his hand from his cheek.
In a moment of desperation, Winter removes his jacket, wrapping it around Spring and holding him close, hoping that would be enough to keep him warm.
"Patton I do not think this will work..." He muttered, growing weaker by the second. "You must take me back."
"I refuse!" Winter cried, hugging him as close as he could. "I want to be with you!"
"But we can't be together. Not like this anyway. I need to be in spring."
And so, with a heavy heart, Patton carried Roman back to his side of the border, gently placing him in the petals.
The frost slowly melted off of his cheeks and gradually he regained his strength. However, Winter watched with tears in his eyes.
"I did not mean to harm you."
Roman gave him a warm smile, sitting himself up fully and taking Patton's hands.
"I know my love. All you want is to be with me. I wish to be with you too. But it's dangerous. Until we find a safe way to cross, we must remain separated. Our only form of contact being here. At the border."
"I wish for more." Patton cried, hand touching his cheek once again. "I yearn for more."
"I know... I promise you, I will find a way."
Patton cried softly, their foreheads pressing to each other’s.
"I am here for you. Always, my sweet, beautiful snowflake." Roman mumbled softly.
And in that moment he couldn't help himself. He pressed their lips together, a delicate burning sensation between them.
As he pulled back, his now frost-bitten lips turned up at the corners, smiling so fondly at the man before him.
"Oh Roman your lips I... I've hurt you again..." Patton uttered quietly, icy tears falling down his cheeks, freezing to his face.
Roman shook his head, smile still strong as he teared up a little. "I will be okay... it is a short moment of pain in exchange for a lovely, lasting memory. And right now, I only wish to do it more and more. Because I need you. All of you. In any way I can get..."
Winter hugged Spring just as close as he could, the two sharing soft, delicate kisses until the sun came up. Tears rolling down each of their cheeks but smiles on their lips.

"Patton my dearest!~" Came Roman's sing-songy voice at the moral side's door.
"Coming my sweet songbird!" Patton responded moments after, hopping up from his bed and moving to open the door. He laughed giddily as he was swept off his feet and twirled in a circle, his arms falling around Roman's neck.
He let out a soft, happy hum as the princely side planted kisses on his pudgy cheeks.
"What's got you in such a good mood?" He questioned, not that he was complaining, just curious.
"Well my sweet little sugar cube," he started to say, setting Patton onto his feet and flicking his wrist. A golden card appeared in his hand. "I got an invitation sent to me from the imagination."
Patton peered at the card, catching a glimpse at the words on it. "A ball? That sounds fun."
"Of course! While I'm hesitant because Remus is the one throwing it, I thought it'd be a fun thing to do together. You know. As a couple." The creativity flashed a smile at the moral side, causing him to swoon.
"That would be wonderful!" Patton chirped happily.
"Great! I'll go get my outfit ready~"
Patton couldn't help the warm smile spreading on his face. "I can't wait."
