     She speaks as though she knows well of heartache, of loss and grief. She sounds as though she’s had time to come to terms with the strifes she has dealt with, finding ways to cope so easily with the pain. They, too, wish it were that easy for themself but Mikhael has long since given up that they’ll find that sort of comfort. Still they sit in silence with the princess, greyish eyes glancing to her every now and again.

     “Is that so…?” The question leaves them like a whisper, thumb rubbing over the knuckles of one hand. It’s hard to think that some day, the summoner will be able to move on from the torment their soul is put through. That perhaps they’ll be rid of such a vicious cycle. But that seems like a mere pipe dream now, having lost count of the numerous times they’ve been summoned again and again to the beginning of another life.

     “I wonder when that eventually will come… I hope-” They feel their throat burn, lungs seizing up and it’s difficult to breath. Guilt eats at their gut, nails digging hard into the back of their palm as they wheeze out a few breaths, “I-I hope this will all end.”

     Perhaps it is a nightmare. The only issue is that he is not asleep- he is very much awake and aware. Perhaps it could be the issue of lack of sleep settling in on him, making him jumpy. Giving him hallucinations of things he’d rather not think of. Of things he wish to not see again.

     The princess’ voice brings him out of terror ridden thought, brown eyes wide and lips parted slightly as Cormag looks up to her. His blood feels cold, sweat dripping down his face and his mouth opens and closes several times, trying to find the words to speak to Eirika. The only thing he does is lift his hands up to cover over his eyes, elbows digging into his knee from the spot that he sits.

     “I—” His voice cracks, terrified gaze peeking through his fingers as he stares at the ground. His shoulders jump at feeling the Renais royal’s palm press against his shoulder, “It’s always at night that it happens… where I see him.” His voice is soft, low like a whisper. As if he were trying to keep it all a secret to himself. Yet he lifts his head up again, looks to the teal haired princess and it’s so unlike him to feel this afraid.

     “I feel as though I am haunted, Princess… no matter where I look, I see the image of my brother- what that snake did to him,” His lips quiver, teeth biting against each other for a moment, “And I see him, as he would look if he were made a terror– just as that paladin’s wife was.” He knew not a name for the man, but he remembered the scene. And his body shakes again, eyes squeezing shut as if to rid the thought once more.

     Oh, truth be told he’s surprised by the way that the Renais princess presses onto her toes and kisses his cheek. It leaves him shocked for a moment, cheeks faintly darkening with a blush before his lips quirk in a smile. A quiet laugh escapes him as he leans down, presses a kiss to the top of Eirika’s head before leaning further more and kissing her cheek like she had done to his own.

     Her words leave them silent for a moment, greyish eyes simply fixated upon the Renais princess. Slowly do their lips part, remaining open for a time before closing. Open again, close again. The summoner has no words and their throat feels tight, fingers holding firmer onto the princess’ hand. Privilege, she said but is that what it is? Was it so special to be something important to the summoner?

     But it is, so they realize. With the way they are distant, withdrawn. How they keep to themself, away from everyone.

     Yet Eirika has made it a habit to check on them. To make sure they are alright. To offer her ear when needed. And Mikhael thinks back to the timeline before- to the way their heart felt tight around the princess. To how it felt as though they could not breathe, but not out of fear but something different. Love, perhaps... A cruel thing for them to experience.

     Their eyes sting for a moment at the tears that well up in the corners, blinking them away as they hold tighter onto Eirika’s hand. Dull eyes look to her again, brow furrowing in their mild upset and somehow, Mikhael manages a smile. A smile that looks like it may crack any moment now, how their lips quiver in trying to keep it in place. A harsh swallow is made in their throat.

     “Eirika–” They wheeze for a second, trying to remain composed, “Of course, you matter to me,” You’ve always mattered to me. “If it seems like I- like you don’t, that isn’t it... There’s a lot– A lot running through my mind, I simply need time to think.” Another swallow and they squeeze her hand once more. 

     “You matter to me... more than you know.” And you will continue to matter to me, no matter what. Even when you don’t remember.

ohhh! yeas absolutely… im definitely open to the idea! so if you ever are down to discuss it or whatnot, hmu!! i already feel like mikhas going to find eirika somebody that they can trust in,, so its all a matter of seein where it goes ;3c
