#flashbackfriday 2009, spring. Abigail was 2 1/2, I was 28. It was a rough year but oh the sweet girl gave me something to fight for. Then, as she does now. She's about to turn 9 and I'm honestly blown away at the honest, empathetic, joyfully creative and curious. Even though it's hard and we struggle like crazy because we are 100% alike yet 100% different. I have fought to learn how to mother her, how to love her, and be compassionate to her needs. Understanding her emotions and learning how to process them with her as well as teaching her how to safely regulate and use healthy coping skills. I got the most heartwarming comment from one of the leasing agents at our apartment. He was talking about how Abigail is such a sweet heart. He then said that he sees how we talk and interact with each other and it makes him feel good to see how tight our family is. He then told me I'm a wonderful mother. Mothers know how hard it is. Raising human is a thankless, messy, family bed with the occasional butt or foot in the others face. Motherhood is going without so Abigail can have something. It's a lot of thankless holidays and mothers/fathers days, or days where my pain level is debilitating and I still have to clean, cook, do homework and bedtime. It's so much that's hurts to even write. I don't write this as a 'Rah 'Rah me post but more of how this mans words come right when my emotions are at full capacity. But somehow he knew that the time to approach me was then. I don't believe in coincidence or random. Esp after this.
