damn, shout out to pain and suffering, i guess! jgkdfjgkf thank you for the ask 🫶 i don't think these are in a specific order, more like five moments that stand out.

spoilers for never let me go, the eighth sense, 3 will be free, pluto, and guardian under the cut

there are definitely multiple sad moments in this series, but the one that always hurts the most is the scene after palm's mom gets killed and nueng tries to break up with him. they are both in so much pain: palm obviously just lost his mom, but nueng is blaming himself for what happened and he also knows exactly what insecurities to jab at to try and make the break up believable. and although it doesn't work in the moment, this is also when nueng makes the final (or what he thinks is the final) decision that palm's life will be better without him and he must leave him, which he does follow through with that night. just horrible.

this series definitely has its fair share of sad moments too, but to me, the scene on the rooftop where ji hyun says "i feel like i'm going crazy every time i look at you. don't you feel the same?" is just such a gut-punch. ji hyun's desperation and confusion, jae won's inability to actually look at him, his heartbreak and ultimate rejection because he feels like that's the right thing to do, like he should protect ji hyun by keeping him away from himself. huh... that actually kinda sounds a lot like the nlmg moment. never thought about that before. but yes, also devastating.

mae visiting ter's grandma after ter is killed. and specifically grandma saying that ter told her he had a girlfriend and was so happy when he talked about her. and we knew, of course we knew that that's how he felt, but it's different to mae, it's the kind of confirmation that is extremely important to her, but it is so so horrific that it comes posthumously. and it's just so profoundly devastating that mae never actually got to be that, never got to hear him call her his girlfriend, never got to build a life with him like they both deserved. one simple sentence but there is so much tragedy in it. jojo tichakorn, when i catch you... when i catch you, jojo tichakorn........

ai-oon separating ob-oom and may. when i tell you i was sobbing through that scene, i MEAN it. and i wasn't the only one either. gods, just the pure selfishness on ai-oon's part mixed with guilt on ob-oom's part and the anguish that may is feeling. she has been through so much yet she literally FALLS TO HER KNEES because that is undoubtedly the most painful moment of her life and she has no say in it either, even though she is right in the middle of it. just profoundly hurtful.

impossible not to say it, the ending of guardian will always hurt me. it's kind of horrific that it sucks both for watsonian and doylist reasons. the fact that shen wei and yun lan are being separated once more, after shen wei waited for him for so long and after they only got the briefest of moments together while being on the same page is heartbreaking. but the fact that the only reason that's the ending of the series is because of homophobic censorship laws? literally what did we do to deserve this.
