❝ let me help with that. ❞ (for Ligni, from Jai. LOUD SHRUGGING)
Ligni looked up from the stack of books he’d been rearranging—*rearranging* was a gentle term for it, he knew, as he’d mostly dropped them all to the floor. He had carried several across the room, them leaning and wobbling unsteadily against his chest, until one had shifted in a way he’d not anticipated and pain shot through his arm as the dimeritium was shifted beneath his skin. He’d opened his mouth as though to cry out—that being an instinctual, primal thing that he couldn’t quite seem to shake—but all that came out was a hissed exhale of air.
He started in the same instant, his mouth screwed shut and his eyes wide as he turned to face the man he’d not heard come into the room. His cheeks were red and his eyes avoided Jai’s gaze. He shook his head no and worked his hand over the bulging scar on his wrist, now turned an angry red color. Ligni kept shaking his head no, then motioned for Jai to go back to whatever he was doing. As a force of habit, perhaps from being used to spending so many hours with Will, he made a motion with his hand that was meant to signify I’m okay: his open right hand tapping lightly against his right breast.
Ligni knelt and began to gather the books, though several were shoved to the side to be dealt with later.
