Two games in a row in Republic for me, and the nostalgia was strong tonight as the Lady Tigers played Marshfield. I covered several intense clashes between those two programs during my time at The Republic Monitor, often with Central Ozark Conference or tournament title implications.
The teams are no longer conference foes, and Gary Murphy is no longer coaching Marshfield (that's Shelly Jones' gig now). The game, in many ways, reminded me of some of those old clashes. It was intense, and physical, and fast-paced, and some high-quality girls basketball. I'm glad I had a chance to cover it.
Two exciting games this week for me, both decided in the final seconds. This one - between Glendale and Rogersville - was the kind of game where neither team seems to want to win. Lots of turnovers and missed shots down the stretch, but Glendale did just enough to earn the W.
It was a thrilla at my mom's alma mater tonight. Ozark was in control most of the night, but I couldn't help but think "They're letting Parkview hang around. That's dangerous." It turned out to be their undoing.
And Durham was not only clutch on the court, he was classy in the postgame interview. He made sure to clarify something that he said so it wouldn't seem like he was talking himself up too much. He wanted to make sure his teammates got proper credit. Well done, young man.
