Just another day in Hope City
The is a slice of life rp story between zirathezompony (me) and @mordenheim
The year is 30XX, and we find ourselves in a cyberpunk city named Hope City, a thriving metropolis filled with tall buildings, clean streets, new opportunities, and most of all, hope. As long as you stay close to the city center, further out in the city outskirts the crime rate is high and gangs run rampant. If you want to survive out here, you need to know how to avoid danger or fight against it.
It's a dark night in Hope City where Julia and Victor are in an alleyway battered, bruised, and a small group of men lying around them. Julia barked orders at Victor, "Alright, let the client know the job is done. I'm going to run these pockets." Julia is a short-tempered sheep woman who excels in stealth and assassination. She is in a gang called "Bo Peeps".
"Yeah, yeah, I'm on it." Victor is a male zebra who is stronger than he looks, and he's proficient in head-to-head confrontations. Victor takes a picture of the target and sends it to the client. They are guns for hire, and they are wrapping up a job to take a guy out. They don't know what he did, but in this job field, it's best not to ask questions unless you don't want to get paid or become the next target. Victor looks at his phone as he watches the money being transferred into their account. "Ok, we're good."
Julia finishes up looting the bodies and walks over to Victor. "Sweet. Let's head down to the bar. I need a bottle of painkiller." She pulls out a cigar and lights it, then offers him one.
Mordenheim
The tall, slender zebra brushed his bright red mane back out of his face to reveal one pale blue eye and one metal plate covered with multiple small cameras. He took the cigar and gave i a sniff before using his sharp interlocking teeth to perfectly snip the end. Borrowing the sheep's lighter as they walked he gently toasted the tobacco, blowing on it to ignite before taking a pull, savoring the flavor in his maw.
"Thanks, Julia. I dunno where ye get these from, but they're some f the best I've had."
Their hooves clank softly as hey head down the metal stairs from the ground level to the basement bar. Music thumped in the background as colored lights shone on furs of all shapes and sizes in a dizzying array. The seven-foot three-inch zebra towered over most of them as he cut a path through the crowd, his ears twitching this way and that as he occasionally heard "It's the doc!" mumbled in whispered tones. A holdover from back when he had been a cold, clinical interrogator before the accident that granted him his new height and strength.
As they settled down at the bar, the cameras where his missing eye had been clicked and whirred, connecting to the net to see if there were any contracts on the other patrons, or if the patrons had any out on them. He nodded to the bartender. He took another drag on the cigar before puffing a smoke ring at one of the lights overhead.
"One bottle of painkiller and one scotch on the rocks." He grinned over at Julia, "On me tonight. You did one hell of a job out there."
Zira
"Huh theses? Remember that one job I took to steal some documents from some guy? While I was there, I helped myself to their cigars' haha."
They made their way to the "Deas End" club. The four-foot sheep followed Victor closely behind as they cut through the crowd. As they did, she heard whispers of people calling her "The Red Lamb". She got the nickname because of her piercing red eyes and her white wool is always costed in blood. Even after washing, she still has that iron smell.
The bartender nodded and started mixing "Painkillers", a special drink with a high alcohol count but with the effect of suppressing pain receptors. They hand over drinks and Julia grabs hers and takes a big gulp and shakes her head. She can feel it works already.
"Huh don't I always?" She blows a line of smoke through his ring. "Oh boy, that job would have been easier if they wanted him dead. I could have just climbed a building and pew. One shot with my rifle and popped his head..." She drinks more and looks. "So what are we doing tomorrow? I felt like hitting the guy, but that depends on whether we have enough money for rent."
As soon as she finished that sentence, an overconfident man stepped up to Julia. "Hey honey, if you need money I can help you with that~" she ignored him until he put his head on his hip. Victor knew how short-tempered Julia was and watched as Julia threw her drink at the man's face, punched him in the gut, knocking his wind out, burning his forehead with the cigar, and kicking him down the ground.
"THE NEXT TIME YOU TOUCH ME YOU AIN'T GETTING THAT HAND BACK!!!" She huffs. "Hey Victor, mind getting me another drink? Old Fashioned this time." The club did miss a beat as it's common for a fight to break out every now and again.
Azalin Reviews Darklord Adam
Domain: Lamordia Formation: 575 BC (the actual date various in different sources, but I was there to witness its formation, so take this date to be the most accurate) Power Level: 💀💀💀⚫⚫ Sources: Ravenloft Gazetteer Vol 2 (3e); Domains of Dread (2e); I, Strahd the War Against Azalin (Novel).
Based on rumors, Lamordia went through significant changes in its latest rendition, but this week I shall review it as it once was and tell the tale of Darklord Adam and the constant harsh weather that plagues “his” domain. The settlements of this land are constantly assaulted by deadly blizzards and frigid air coming from the Sea of Sorrows in the winter and infestation of insects and insufferable heat in the summer. I do not recommend visiting, especially given how adverse the entire populace is to magic. I am positive my late father would thoroughly enjoy it, however.
Everything about Lamordia is based upon structure and scientific reasoning set within a utilitarian society. The people have a scientific explanation for everything despite the obvious supernatural phenomena that occurs all around them. They are adverse to any type of magic - whether it be the far more superior arcane arts or the divine. This disbelief is so tightly held that the land itself is known to suppress those that attempt any form of casting. Though, I have it on first hand accounts that this effect does not always occur.
It is highly dangerous for those who deny the existence in the arcane to essentially practice it. I’m surprised Lamorida hasn’t imploded in on itself yet, for Dr. Victor Mordenheim’s science clearly surpasses the realm of the supernatural. Given the nature of the domain, you would think Mordenheim would be its Darklord, but he is not. His creation, a flesh golem of rare independence, is the true Darklord of Lamordia.
Let’s dive in a bit to the tale of these two idiots. When Mordenheim and his wife, Elise, were unable to conceive a child, he devoted himself to the study of life and death; above all, other ways in which life could be created. I can...understand that inclination. It is important one has an heir to carry out one's legacy and rule. Of course, he went about it like a blind fool with no sense of the magics he was tapping into for he denied their very existence.
Adam was the result of 13 years of labor which he spent away from Elise. Moredenheim created Adam to appear as a perfect physical specimen. And upon first blush, I suppose one could say that is true. He is muscular yet lean with long black hair and I am told that sort of thing is appealing to some. However, close up he is a mockery of beauty like a horrible painting gifted to a King by a so-called artist.
Made up of pulsating arteries and tendons seen just beneath the thin bits of grey flesh, Adam is disgusted by his own appearance. Interestingly, when my little scholar interviewed Adam he told her that Mordenheim made him but another source provided him with his “soul”. So, it seems that Mordenheim’s science only brought him so far and it was likely the powers he denied that truly brought life into Adam.
Elise was unsettled by Adam’s appearance and despite her discomfort her husband decided to adopt a girl to act as a playmate for Adam. That seems like a very bad parenting decision and coming from me...well, that says something, doesn’t it?
Adam became obsessed with Elise and wanted nothing more than her acceptance and approval. Accounts of what transpired on the night Lamordia appeared on the border of Barovia differs between Adam and his maker. They both blame the other, but in the end whether Adam was a murderous villain or a victim attempting to gain acceptance, his adopted sister fell to her death after an encounter with him and Elise was mutilated.
Death would have been kinder for Elise, but Mordenheim keeps her alive through “scientific” means. Her heart beats through the working of machinery alone and he constantly switches her limbs and skin out in attempts to receive her, but only accomplishes keeping her in constant pain. If the foolish man believed in Divine or even the Arcane and not dismissed those practitioners of both, he could have healed her condition. I myself have been known to use such magics to prolong my own life when I was a mortal man.
Mordenheim’s monstrous creations roam Lamordia, but despite the obvious arcane nature of these creations, the people and the Doctor himself still dismiss the arcane. They will not accept it, just as they will not accept Adam. And this is the curse the Dark Powers bestowed upon Adam, to never find the acceptance he so hopelessly craves. To live alone on an island, over-dramatically named “The Isle of Agony” as he plots against his creator. When my little scholar interviewed Adam he said that Lamordia was Mordenheim’s even though it shouldn’t be and that they were “all his children”.
Adam is tied to Mordenheim and devotes his existence to making the Doctor’s life as miserable as possible, like the overgrown rebellious teenager that he is. Though, this is quite easy seeing as the Dark Powers bond the two together so that Adam experiences Mordenheim’s physical pain and the doctor experiences his creation’s angsty teenage ways.
As flesh golems go, Adam is one of a kind with many immunities to mundane weapons and certain magical energies. Still, without any arcane mastery of his own, a skilled wizard could make quick work of him. Though his curse is interesting, it makes his tie and rule over his own realm obsolete. As such, I will give Adam 3 skulls for this review and Mordenheim does not even get a skull. I despise those that practice the art without respecting it and those who do so without realizing it? Utter fools.
To Bahira: Any interesting experiments lately? I know a few of your old ones literally brought the house down!
"No, unfortunately. I've been doing a lot of research lately, but it seems all these historical records are....less than reliable. I keep seeing mention of something called "The Heart of Magic", and magic obviously does not exist, so I feel like I am wasting my time.
"But still, it has come up so often. Perhaps it means something important? More research may be required."

This is another old OC of mine but I REALLY need to draw more of him cause lets be honest, HE SEXY!
This is Alec Feret, he’s a professor at an academy for magical creatures and he’s a french gargoyle who teaches languages and spells. He’s also very mysterious and people think he’s dabbled in the dark arts... Hm... Wonder where they get that from?
The academy AKA ‘Destina Academy’ I created was kinda like a RP group where you could make your own student and sign up and do monthly tasks and assignments etc and there would be mini stories and stuff that you’d follow. Unfortunately it never took off and I lost time in being able to keep up with it, maybe one day I’ll revisit it in some way. I have a whole group of teachers designed for it.
BABIES: How about Mordenheim and Strutting Shield? :D Their combined egos wouldn't create some sort of little monster or anything! Reference is linked on my main blog. :)
“I gotsta take your temperature daddy!!!”
/ I tried…. I’m also not good at names so how about Fabustripes? xD
