The Darkness is too much of a drama queen for its own good.

Y'know, if Emma had just pretended to still be fighting it, using being the Dark One / Saviour as the reason why she's the only one to remember in Storybrooke, telling everyone that they need to pull Excalibur from the stone in order to free her from the darkness... this whole thing would be done in about two episodes.

But no. Girl just HAD to make the dramatic entrance. The darkness likes to revel in itself so much it gets in its own way.
