Donut rings
Imagine a little Mirah and Desmon sitting out the back of a huge manstion in a dark forest with only a box of donuts in between them. Imagine that the two are sitting opposite one another, staring at the space between them, not knowing what to say to the other. Imagine how they would feel after just being told that they were to be married together when they were eligible.
Mirah didn’t know what to say, she was married to her best friend. They’ve always known each other, always told each other everything that was on their minds. Mirah glances up to see that Desmon is staring fixedly at the ground like he didn’t know where to look, like he doesn’t know what to do, or how to feel about their current situation. He sucks in a breath, holds it for a moment then sighs before briefly looking up at Mirah, only to see that she is looking at him. He looks down at the box of donuts and coughs.
Mirah’s face turns red and burns in embarrassment, she doesn’t know what she should say. When she was told the news that she was to be married to Desmon, all she could feel was shock. she thought she might faint on the spot. Now she is alone with him, she can’t help but feel like she should say something to make the mood lighter.
“Dez?” She says hesitantly.
Desmon looks up, his brown eyes bright. He looks lost and as shocked as she felt. A sting in her eyes was the only indication that she was starting to cry, the tears slid down her face as she stared at him. After a moment he realises that she is crying, his face crumbles. He only ever see’s Mirah cry when she’s in pain or suffering.
“Mirah don’t cry, don’t cry.” Desmon says softly.
He gets to his feet and walks over to Mirah’s side, he kneels and hugs her around her shoulders.
“Mirah, please don’t cry. You know I can’t stand it when you cry.” He says. “Being married to me isn’t going to be that bad is it?”
Mirah sniffles and shrugs her shoulders. Desmon only just realises that he’s holding his breath when he feels the urge to exhale. It wasn’t the answer that he wanted to hear from her, but it couldn’t be helped.
“We can practice being married if you want,” Desmon says before he lets her go.
When he moves opposite her again he can see that she is smiling faintly, like she is weighing the pros and cons. Desmon looks back down at the donuts and smiles to himself. It might work. He hesitantly picks up a donut and holds out a hand for Mirahs, after a moment of hesitation she puts her hand in his before looking up into his eyes. Desmon silds the donut on to her ring finger.
“Mir, I may not be perfect but I do love you and care for you.” He says. “Lets make a promise that we will always be together whether we are married or not.”
Mirah stares up at him and smiles warmly, she nods.
“I promise, cross my heart and hope to die.” She says smiling.
