Hello everyone and happy Friday! It’s been an interesting week in Beth-land. I’m due a big inspection in my lab first week of April and just getting last little bits and bobs sorted. To distract me, let’s talk about a book haul! I haven’t read Karen Joy Fowler’s previous book, We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves yet, despite having it on my shelves for years 🙈 so it made sense to preorder Booth right?! 😂 It’s a historical novel about one of the most infamous figures in American history, John Wilkes Booth and is focused on the very things that bind and break a family. The Exhibitionist was also a no brainer, especially as it was recently longlisted for the @womensprize 2022. It promises to be a dazzling exploration of art, sacrifice, toxic family politics, queer desire and personal freedom. I also plumped for the @waterstones special edition because the spredges were gorgeous! Finally, A River Enchanted was my @illumicrate book subscription last month. This is Rebecca Ross’ first foray into the adult fantasy genre and follows two childhood enemies on the magical isle of Cadence who must team up to figure out why girls are going missing from their clan. Hello everyone, hope your week has got off to a great start, I’m enjoying some much needed family time staying at my mum’s with @chrissireads 🥰 Time for another book haul methinks? 😉 I’ve almost caught up with the books I bought before I imposed a book buying ban on myself. My new ban means I’m only allowed to buy books if I have vouchers to spend. Believe me, I need it. I currently have 962 unread books in my house 😂 Memorial looks wonderful. It follows two young guys, Benson, a black day care teacher and Mike, a Japanese American chef at a pivotal point in their relationship. Mike flies to Osaka as his estranged father is dying as his acerbic mother arrives in Texas for a visit and to stay with Benson. Described as funny, sexy and profound, this looks like such an interesting read. Meet Me In Another Life follows Thora and Santi who are strangers but meet by chance until a tragic accident cuts their story short. However, they are destined to meet time and time again as they become friends, colleagues, lovers and enemies. Finally, Brood. I resisted buying this for so long but I feel gravitationally pulled towards it! Described as a darkly witty, deeply moving and startling original debut novel of motherhood and grief, full of sorrow, joy and unrelenting hope, this looked too intriguing to pass up upon. 🍃QOTD: ¿Cuál es el libro o saga que viven diciendo que van a leer, pero que seguramente jamás van lo harán? ➳Ja! Ceo que voy a terminar siendo cancelada por no leer TRC. Leí solo el primero y me aburrió bastante, y a pesar de que me dicen que el siguiente es muchísimo mejor, siento que no me va a gustar y que voy a perder mi tiempo. Pero, bueno, tal vez lo haga más adelante cuando no tenga tantos libros pendientes.
