Hello! Here are some questions for your OCs, as promised. I like your guys :]

What is a Ydinni? What sets them apart from others? How are they treated by others and themselves? Any common cultural practices?

How does Condor's mouth function? Can it close? How does he eat? I assume he has to disguise it. How does he do so?

What kind of studies does Morel perform? Are they an antagonist? Are they a villain? How do they view their actions?

What's the geography/environment of the military base they live at?

How old are each of the characters? What's the average lifespan within Tunnels, the military base, and for infected people?

Hope these aren't too many! I wanted to ask something more world-building-y. Except for Morel. I want more context on them. They seem cool! :]

Hi! thank you these questions are AWESOME! (giggles and kicks my feet)

a ydinni is a specific ethnic/racial group. they are generally quite pale and quite small, with rounder faces. unfortunately, any particular cultural practices they would've had were wiped out a long time ago. Before the end of the world, they were... not well-liked, to say the least. And as for how they're treated, let's just say Anemone's belief that she is inherently worth less than other people and more likely to become a bad person is not rooted in nothing. in fact, that's a fairly common belief, even among her own people.

Condor's mouth! fun fact, those "teeth" are actually sort of barb that can flex, digging into whatever he is trying to eat. i based him off a lamprey a little bit. he can't close it, as its just kind of a big concave pit on his face with no lips to speak of. he also lacks a tongue, and can't taste anything. he eats but sort of shredding stuff with the barb-teeth, and guiding it to his throat. as for a disguise, he mostly just hides! theres not a lot of people around, and when they do find people, Nem and Morel can try to vouch for him. Sometimes it works, and sometimes they leave. People don't really want to deal with the infected, so when they walk away it's usually not challenged.

Morel is looking for the source of the infection and a possible cure! Old Base knows way, way less about the infection than Tunnels, since the Ydinni who started the infection fled to Tunnels*. They're not an antagonist, or a villain. Like everyone else, they're a little weird. They just sort of fail to have boundaries with their subjects, and often have a hard time treating their interests with the proper gravity they have. Morel has a deep fascination with the infection. they don't see their actions wrong, but they do know they're odd, and they feel a bit embarrassed by that sometimes. Morel is ultimately well-intentioned, just a bit weird about it and lacking in boundaries. they'll learn eventually.

the military base is in a big wooded area. its sort of flat otherwise, but has a lot of nearby caves. the base itself has a decent-sized lake fed by a river, and some tents and cabins around.

The characters are all around 20-21. their exact ages aren't very important, and won't come up much, except Condor, but he's a secret. The average lifespan in Tunnels is pretty low, due to Tunnels' leaders' opinions on people who can't work. i would say its somewhere in the late 60s or early 70s that most people end up getting shown the outside for the first and last time. Old Base is luckily a whole lot better, and generally treats its people like people, so they live longer, but it's still the apocalypse, so people can get to late 70s or mid 80s, and probably not much older unless they avoid every age-related illness Old Base can't treat. As for the infected, they could theoretically live infinitely, since they heal fast and don't seem to age. In fact, this is a major part of the problem. The Hosts - the only infected capable of causing infection - are definitely still alive, and its been over a hundred years.

* i don't know if i mentioned this before on here (a lot of worldbuilding was done on a discord server with mutuals so. i forget what people do and do not know) but the reason why Tunnels knows so much about the infection and why they are so terrible to the Ydinn is because they know what caused the infection, and it was Ydinn messing with parts of Ael** which then led to everything going wrong. they only know all this because these people fled to Tunnels and told them. Nowadays, the general person's knowledge of what happened was that the Ydinn were trying to make bioweapons or supersoldiers. the why is not known or questioned.

** again have no idea if i mentioned this. theres a giant black orb thing thats approximately the same size as the sun, orbiting a barycenter between it and the sun. this object is called Ael amd is generally considered to be a god or a manifestation of a god. it on occasion loses parts of itself, and on a rarer occasion these parts land on the planet this is happening on. these parts were put into people by the Ydinn, and this led to the infection.

💯 - Nem has an incredible poker face! Sometimes the scouts play card games and she is. often excluded. she's too good. She also really likes sweets, especially fruits! Doesn't get them a lot, but is extremely happy when she does. she also likes to draw :)

🐷 - Morel has a hard time deciding on a favorite, usually it's whichever is closest to them at the moment. Though, the most frequent contenders for favorite are doves and deer.
