#Repost @wearetransilient ・・・ Alex, Birmingham, Alabama (@mcacbham ) "I really like - well right now I’m writing again, and I’m drawing again. I stopped for a while. A lot of my friends left. Well, to be specific, I left them. Because... I realized they were horrible people. So, for a while I stopped because I became really depressed and I didn’t really wanna do anything. And I just started up again. During that time, I spent a lot of time alone and taking long walks by myself and sort of, rediscovering myself. Right now, I’m just doing exercises. And then after I do drawing exercises I feel like I will finally find what I truly enjoy and my own style. There’s this one, well basically it’s a snake, but you draw circles. And each one has to be smaller than the one before it. And you connect them. And then you continue to make them farther apart, so you have to do curves and stuff. It’s a little hard. I would be invisible, (without Magic City Acceptance Center) since I have a lot of social anxiety and stuff. I don’t know, I guess I would sit back and observe people all the time. I know that sounds really creepy, but that’s what I would do. I came in here [MCAC] and I met a lot of great people. And then, with those great people some new people come in and I get to meet them as well. Erin, San Francisco, CA “Transilient: When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? Erin: A scientist. I wanted to do chemistry, like a mad scientist though. Transilient: Like to stop bad guys? Erin: Yeah, but I think I wanted to be the bad guy probably! [laughs] Yeah, I think what I love about #entrepreneurship in general is that I get to do something new everyday, and it's like a giant problem that always needs to be solved. And it’s just like every day, you wake up and do something new and it’s constantly a #challenge, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Transilient: Do you think that creating #clothing is also a science as well as an #art? Erin: Yeah, and tailoring obviously has such a long history. The more that I learn about the #garment that I’m selling, the more I don’t know anything about what I’m doing. And so I’ve been very lucky to work with #tailors that have really taken me under their wing and taught me quite a bit about the garment and what to do, and I’m constantly in the process of #learning ― and that’s what I most enjoy.” • • • More about Erin: Erin Berg co-founded @KipperClothiers in 2013, following the repeal of Proposition 8, out of a need to create clothing that inspires pride and confidence within the LGBTQ community.
