Point of exhaustion
Sometimes I wonder at the statement, "God will not give us more than we can handle". Because terrible things can happen. They do happen. God protects us from many things but he doesn't promise the absence of trouble and hard-learned lessons. So maybe we need to look at "not more than we can handle" as less of a tentative hope of smooth sailing, but as God's faith in us. The ability of the human spirit to endure and transcend circumstances is a gift from God. Learning that we deserve nothing allows us to be grateful and stay in the process because He has brought us this far. Sometimes we will come to our breaking point, but God is still there because as a human, He took on more than we could ever handle.
