Honeylocust by: Mary Oliver
Who can tell how lovely in June is the honey locust tree, or why a tree should be so sweet and live in this world? Each white blossom on a dangle of white flowers holds one green seed - a new life. Also each blossom on a dangle of flower holds a flask of fragrance called Heaven, which is never sealed. The bees circle the tree and dive into it. They are crazy with gratitude. They are working like farmers. They are as happy as saints. After awhile the flowers begin to wilt and drop down into the grass. Welcome shines in the grass. Every year I gather handfuls of blossoms and eat of their mealiness; the honey melts in my mouth, the seeds make me strong, both when they are crisps and ripe, and even at the end when their petals have turned dully yellow. So it is if the heart has devoted itself to love, there is not a single inch of emptiness. Gladness gleams all the way to the grave.

Sinners and the Colonial Parasite.
SPOILERS FOR SINNERS. It's a great movie. I love it. It's so good, and I need to talk about it.
Okay, so, Vampirism as an allegory for colonialism? Pretty dope, not gonna lie, and it fits so perfectly. We start with our main man Sammie stumbling into a church, seeking refuge and forgiveness after a rather rough night, which the father willingly gives w/ one condition; drop the broken guitar and give up this sinful music.
Already we have our symbolic conflict laid out: the church represents assimilation and acceptance into a sanitized culture. The guitar, broken as it is, represents freedom, expression, and a strong connection to your ancestors and cultural history. Sammie is beaten and bloody after a violent attempt to take that away. Will Sammie give that up willingly in exchange for safety and peace?
The Smoke Stack Twin's dream of creating a safe space for the POC of their hometown is built out of love for their community and where they came from, no one was giving them that safe space so they had to take and build it with a lot of blood and sweat. They had to gather up the people one by one, they had to fight and kill and steal to make their way in the world, otherwise they would always be under the boot of those who would do violence against them. (like the KKK, representing militant assimilation and dominance)
If Sammie represents Liberation through Expression, then the Twins represent Liberation through Violence.
Annie has her Hoodoo apothecary where she's found Liberation in Faith/Spirituality. She holds on to her cultural identity and passes it down to others with her practice, and through her practice she refuses to assimilate.
Lisa and Mary both seem to represent Liberation through Love and Family. The Chow's built their family and a small successful business in a hostile world, finding freedom and community in each other, while Stack refused to settle down and embrace Love as a means to freedom, instead choosing Violence w/ his brother. He chose to push her away and help her assimilate in white society so she could escape the cycle of violence against their people.
We'll get to the rest as the come up, but I think these are the big ones. Alone, they all carve out small little places in the world, only able to do so much, but when they come together, that's where the magic happens. Everyone making amends and cooperating in solidarity to allow Sammie to do his thing as Grios and channel that into the best music and dance scene in cinematic history.
And the Chow's having their culture represented proves this isn't about the superiority of Black culture or race, any culture can take part in it, it's about connection to the people who came before you, who fought and died to help you carve out your place in the world.
And the reason no whites were present (unless you count Mary) is because all the white people in this movie have been cut off from that magic that everyone else has, they've forgotten their cultural identity, so they seek to dominate and assimilate others and make other people Theirs.
Even when they grant, or are forced to grant, freedom, they find some way to pollute it so you are still under them. (By the way, whiter than snow here, my mom did the DNA test and we white af)
We see this with the KKK, an organization that doesn't have any culture or values that can stand on their own, it's an empty ideology built on Hate for an Other. We see this in the white owned farms, which can't exist without impoverished blacks holding it up. They are so scared of the very real power these people have if they're allowed an even playing field in society that they pay them in fake money so they can never leave, so the farms still hold all the power.
We see this in the church, where they literally make themselves as white on the outside and appealing to white society as possible in hopes of being left in peace, complete with victim blaming and the needing to repent for being oppressed! Insanity! We also see this with Slim, who's performing on the streets and in white owned places, playing what they want to hear, getting paid only just enough to get by.
(Assimilation and Control through Violence, Expression, Faith, and... Captialism? heh? You mean to tell me Capitalism is one of the many mechanisms of colonialism, domination, and a source for parasitic relationships in America? better not look too closely into that, moving on.)
Oh hey look, a vampire!
What better villain to a bunch of displaced people just trying reconnect and keep their culture alive than another displaced immigrant and victim of colonialism, the Irishman!
Remmick, I think, represents absolute cultural Assimilation and Submission, (Because guess what, white people are also victims of colonialism, I never asked for this shit, I'm constantly fighting to separate myself from the toxic culture I was born into in my own ways, and the way I see it, the Scottish, Welsh, Irish, and all the Celtic Cultures are victims of violent assimilation via the British, Romans and Vikings and the long history of conquest and empires and war.
Colonialism is basically just a mass trauma response being passed down generation after generation going back thousands of years. What triggered this rambling essay is my recent discovery of modern Druidry, which, as far as white people culture goes? Pretty fucking rad, and is very anti-colonial. Anyway back to the program!)
Remmick has no soul. Not in a way that matters. Even having his fully intact soul trapped inside, he's been cut off from the afterlife, his culture, his ancestors. The magic of having a soul is all the things it connects you to. All the People it connects you to. So he does what a parasite does, he takes from others and gives nothing back. He worms his way into people's shelter and protection by appealing to superficial and empty similarities. He tricks his way into the KKK couple's home by appealing to a shared and general fear and hatred of brown people, building a quick, shallow, and hollow foundation for trust that quickly leads to assimilation into the hive mind, the lack of satisfaction leads Remmick to his next target.
And when Remmick approaches a place built around genuine solidarity and shared values, he has almost no way in. No one's in the Juke Joint by virtue of being black, they're all there because they're Family. Everyone knows everyone else by name. Everyone grew up together, has shared history, shared trauma, shared culture of oppression. So when these adorable dumbass white folks come in wanting to play, they initially say no. They don't know you, they don't know your motives, what you're like, but they know what the white people around these parts are like, so you have no extended trust or reputation to bank on with these guys.
But two things tipped the scales; one, they really needed the money. The community couldn't support a place like this, not with all the farms giving them fake plantation cash. A place like the Juke Joint need Everything (Violence, Expression, Faith, Family, Resources) to work, and they were loosing the Economic battle. And two, they had someone who understood both black and white culture and could walk between worlds, so she could scope them out and see if they were safe to let in.
So what's the symbolic representation of all that follows you may ask? Ohhh it's soooo juicy. At what point do you give up and accept assimilation? How many of your friends and family have to assimilate and accept a hollow and parasitic culture before you give up what makes your people truly special?
Imagine in another world where Stack got sent to prison, and decided it wasn't worth it to keep fighting for a better future for his people, becoming the ideal reformed criminal? Would it be any less devastating watching your brother die and suddenly come back Wrong and Unrecognizable? He has all the memories and personality of your brother, but lost that thing that made him HIM? What about, rather than being sent out at night and getting got by vampires, all those people, upset that the Juke Joint shut down, when to white owned joints with their friends to try and recapture the magic of that place, only to be softly assimilated into the white dominated culture, loosing the thing that made them Love the original place, in settling for something that rings hollow?
Would that be any less devastating to see? How long would you keep fighting? How many people do you loose to the Parasite before you give up? Wouldn't lead to families broken along party lines on the issue? leading to infighting and weakening your once shared culture?
I think the events of the night were kind of a symbolic speed run of everyone's future, once they get older, lost more people, became tired of fighting against a system hell bent on destroying and dominating them anyway they can, sacrificing themselves in the hope it will all be worth to save one of their own and give them a better life.
So after all this violence and horror, did Sammie give up his calling as a Grios? Did all those people die to save his life or so he could keep playing his music and keep doing what made him, him? The thing that his people carried with them across the Atlantic and risked death to share amongst each other?
Did Sammie give up the guitar and sacrifice what made his people special?
Would you?
A scholastic comic has no place dropping these bangers
Anarcho-Praxic. A unifying Anarchist Philosophy.
EDIT: this is bigger than anarchism, so all leftists insert your own identifying philosophy and read on.
Anarchists believe in freedom for everyone to follow our own paths as we see fit. Which has lead to generations of theories and thoughts on how best to achieve a society of true egalitarianism, communism, (in terms of a classless, stateless, and moneyless society, not neccesarily as the political philosophies of the same name) mutualism and solidarity.
Anarcho-communism, anarcho-syndicalism, eco-anarchism, mutualists, revolutionaries, hacktivists, affinity groups, platformists and so many more. So many stategies to achieve the same broad goals.
So many doctrines to choose from and subscribe too.
So many ideas, they've started competing w/ eachother, leading to mass decision paralysis, bickering, debate, semantics, posturing, virtue signaling.
This has lead to a lack of cohesion, unified action and organized efforts, in favor of infighting, splinter groups, competions over support for the 'correct' narrative.
So i propose a new approach, one more philosophy to throw onto the pile. Doubtless I am not the first, my idea is not original but i havent heard of it before.
And some of yall need to hear it too.
In the study material gifted to me by my druidic order, they make a distinction between belief in
Orthodoxy: same doctrine, or correct beliefs, and
Orthopraxy: similar practices, or correct actions.
Druidry is an orthopraxic spirituality. Your beliefs are your own to form, but druids will reccomed similar practices to each other to help you form those beliefs and reach your own conclusions.
Similar practices and rituals are what bind us and unify us. Our actions are what identify us as such. We are not druids, we simply practice druidry. If i ever stop practicing, then i am no longer a druid. If i ever start practicing again, then i am druid again.
Likewise, i think the collective leftist narrative would benefit from leaving the orthodox approach behind, and shift to a more orthopraxic approach.
I don't care if you're christian, socialist, white, or straight. I don't even care if you're slightly conservative or closed minded: if you're out there feeding the homeless, i'm right there with you. And the second you start performing actions that interfere with that work with bigotted language, lackluster performance, propoganda, or recruiting, we are no longer on the same page and i wont compomise on that.
If christians wont accept my non-chistian help, then i drop everything and go my own way.
I don't care if running for office makes me 'less' of an anarchist in people's eyes, or that it lead to corruption and conformity in favor of protecting the position of power gained, rather than using that power for revolutionary ends.
I won't back down. I have the gift of history and foresight so i will take up that office with the philosophy of a suicide bomber: i will exploit the system to achieve the most good right now, with no thought of compromise or holding back to gain more power in the future. Because that ACTION is what lead to corruption.
Take Kat Abughazaleh, i don't know her. I don't trust her. But i dont have too. She is using her candidacy to raise money and fund real mutual aid and social programs RIGHT NOW. So she has whatever support can provide.
But what if she's scooping money off the top, what if she's just doing it to boost her influencer status, what if she doesn't keep her promises?
Don't care. Doesn't matter. I will give her what i can spare, but i won't pin my hopes on her or go out on a limb for her. What ever my experiences are, good or bad, i will learn from them oand move on.
My mother just suffered a massive heart attack. Should i not take her to the hospital on principle? Because 'uhm, ahkctually, hospitals are an exploitive and unfair for profit system and sooooo problematic?' Or am i going to get my mother the care she deserves, and not run my famliy into debt by dodging the bill and using whatever financial aid at my disposal, because it's wrong to deny her care and equally wrong to become permanantly endebted as a result.
The biggest problem with leftists of every stripe is we spend too much time trying to make the most lofty, ideal, and optimized decisions, and not enough time making the best decision from where you are RIGHT NOW.
How will the death of Charlie Kirk influence national events?
Premise: I've been working on a mathematical model to predict human behavior for a few weeks (see prev post here) and now is the perfect time to see how well this approach predicts how real world events play out.
Process: After reading up and Charlie Kirk's personal history to get an idea of him and his connections throughout society, I developed a few metrics to quantify the impact of his death. - First we measure Breadth (how many people were directly effected) and Turnover (How much awareness of event actually translates to action) - Second we measure secondary effects such as Ripple and Half-life - Thirdly we measure Normative and Novel Shift
---------
0 No observable effect, ( negligible change, verbal condemnation, individual level actions)
1 Very limited (affects < 0.1 % of population, protests, primary network level actions, days long half-life)
2 Limited (affects ~0.1‑1 % of population, modest change, boycott, stikes, rioting, state level, weeks long half-life)
3 Moderate (affects 1‑10 % of population, noticeable change, guerrilla warfare, state level, crisis/disaster level, months long half life)
4 Significant (affects 10‑20 % of population, major change, structured war, national level, years long half-life)
5 Massive (affects > 20 % of population, profound change, total war, global level, decades long half-life)
---------
Using this table as a guide, roughly 3-4000 people were directly effected by Charlie Kirk's shooting, counting witnesses and my own guess as to how many law enforcement, staff, co-workers etc were directly affected by the event.
Given that is less than .1% of the American population, Breadth is scored as a 1/5. (When measuring the impact on smaller groups like MAGA or Christian Nationals, this would probably impact a larger percent of those groups specifically)
Turnover is scored as a 1/5, given that this triggered a massive manhunt, garnered nationwide attention, and will probably contribute to future discussions on gun control and political violence, as well as lend a martyr effect of legitimacy to his ideas, trigger investigations that will drag the skeletons out of his closest, sparking further debate. I don't see his death triggering anything beyond the protest level directly.
So we average these scores out (1+1/2=1/5) to get a 1/5 for Direct Impact in other words a low Direct Impact.
Ripple: 4/5.The effects of the shooting immediately garnered national attention, with Trump himself giving updates on social media and putting out the worlds first AI generated presidential address, and all living previous presidents spoke out and condemned the violence, as well as a few international heads of state. Half-life: 3/5. I would guess that this story will remain a hot topic in the news and political debate for a few months at most. People of course won't forget about it, but the event will loose relevancy and momentum within 3-5 months. Average the scores to get 3.5/5 Sustained Impact which is medium-high
Normative shift: 2.3/5 IE, how does this event shift what is considered normal or normalized? How unprecedented is this killing? I covered most of this in Turnover, while it will draw a lot of attention to guns, violence, Kirk's own beliefs, and how he interacted with his corner of the world, thus sparking further polarization, this is hardly new or unusual. The only thing that makes this unusually is that Kirk was part of the 'In group'. He was a white, conservative, christian-nationalist. He was a secondary supporter of Trump. Around the same time a young Ukrainian refugee, Iryna, was stabbed to death in NC, the same day Kirk died, there was a school shooting in Colorado, yet Kirk gets all the attention. Why? because he was part of 'the important people' crowd. White neo-nazi's aren't suppose to get shot, that's what impoverished minorities are for. This is on the same par as the CEO shooting last December. It's alarming and unusual that rich people from the Majority are being subject to violence, but this isn't uncharted territory.
Novelty: 1/5 This was going to be a zero, but you can't ignore the fact the Trump administration just dropped history's first ever AI generated presidential address. And it was done super sloppy. No respect for the intelligence or analytical capabilities of the common american people, who all figured it out instantly, forcing the administration to lie and say the AI glitches we all know so well were actually editing errors. Bullshit, but this sets a very dangerous precedent that I will be looking forward to analyzing in future events, as AI will only get better from here,
N&N Shift: 1.65/5* Low, but with with a huge asterisk to flag the use of AI
Overall impact 2.05/5: Low-med
Preliminary findings All in all, not an earth shattering event. It will mostly spark polarizing debate, and be milked by the administration as justification to retaliate and escalate against opponents/minorities as they play populist underdog and prop up Kirk as the martyr he was never meant to be. Most outrage will be manufactured for attention and garnering superficial support. Kirk will be paraded around as a spectacle, but it won't last. The foundation for his toxic and aggressive reputation is flimsy, and his death won't trigger a serious power vacuum of any sort.
Given Trump's biggest threat to his power is the erosion of trust between him and his supporters, this is just the event he and his staff can spin in order to take back the narrative and regain that trust through a show of force to make everyone see Trump and his posse as 'protectors' and 'saviors' of America. So even if Trump is cannibalizing this country for parts to siphon off to his sycophants and bribers, at least he will be able to protect and avenge those of his in-group.
Like wise, we can all look into Charlie Kirk, see what kind of guy he was, how he helped perpetuate neo-nazi ideology, see how guys like him are able to embed themselves in society and grift their way through life, and use him as a learning tool on how nazis and pedophiles were able to consolidate so much power. We can use Kirk as a lesson to know our enemies, see how they act and react, and what.makes them tick.
Pick apart why this guy matters, but Iryna Zarutska doesn't. Why killing a CEO garners a manhunt, but mass claim denial doesn't warrant investigation. We can use Kirk to push for class consciousness.
NEXT I will do an Impact Map to visualize how this event influences specific groups and what chain reactions that can cause down the line
We should all join ICE.
Think of how funny it would be if liberals, socialists, and general non-nazis flooded ICEs recruitment efforts, took thier money and positions away from the actual thugs, and were just... criminally incompetent. Just absolute dogshit at rounding up the most defenseless and easiest targets, but we were all gung ho enough that they kept giving us chance after chance to keep thier recruitment numbers up?
Or we all firmly refused to do anything without it being completly legal and above board, insisting we do everything 'by the book' because we are 'true believers' in the cause
Or straight up leaked information to our communities, both of troop movements and doxxing our 'fellow' agents. Or did any number of sabatoge masked as well meaning incompetence?
The military was devestated by covid. so many people were filing for Constientious Objection Status or other forms of early severence that they gave everyone honorable discharges just to get them through faster and quit disputing it once they left. Imagine how much leverage we could get over ICE if wave after wave joined up and ripped them up from the inside?
Something to think about.
So it seems the democrat strategy to dealing with trump is controlled opposition: do just enough to not meaningfully or materially resist, but huff and puff just enough to look like a good alternative when voting season starts. So its like the big beautiful bill, or the gerrymanderin faux resistance, but with EVERYTHING. The logical conclusion leading to waiting for votes to just swing back in their favor, but be too impetent to enact any radical policy change in the face of militant republican and oligarch resistance.
When I saw it unfold throughout the year, i kinda assumed it was a knee-jerk, disorganized reaction, but after a year of observation it seems like this was the playbook from the get-go.
Which means democrats are nothing more than a slight time buffer for a real solution like democratic-socialism to take root
