Lost and Found
The group was much further out now yet black ash was still uncovered under layers of snow as they walked. The fire had not been as intense this far out, it didn’t burn its’ way up trees and the air was much cleaner. The group could breathe easily as the Espeon led them ahead, Alesia and Aera following close behind, while Kerial and Red dragged their feet in the back. Hungry, beaten, and exhausted more that the others but they kept going. The larger Dragonair took notice of the two falling behind, “Mrs. Morgan how much further is this place?”
Little did the group know the Espeon was panting too, “Just up ahead.” She huffed out between her breaths as they came upon a thicker layer of snow leading up to a little hillside. “This is a layer of stone so I thought we could make a campfire here.” She moved aside some snow to show what she meant as grey appeared from underneath; but it wasn’t the dark grey of ash, instead it was that of a frozen over stone untouched by flame. On the far end was that hill with a small hole dug out in the middle of it all. “There was um... something I wanted to talk to you about before we got here Red but I thought maybe it would be best to just show you...” The Espeon hopped through the snow and hurriedly went into the cavern before Red could muster a reply. The large Dragonair’s body carved a path through the snow as all of them huddled around the den.
Morgan appeared again with nothing in tow, until some eyes shined out from behind her as she made her exit. He wiped his hazel eyes as a yawn squeaked from his mouth as he sniffled. Then his eyes grew wide and his mouth fell open taking in the group before him. Then he stopped on the one that was the same species as himself, yet white and shining. “Y-you, th-that’s really...?” He kept looking back to Morgan who only nodded. The new bunnelby quickly hopped out and stood shorter in front of Red. “I-I umm... I don’t know how to greet you! My name is Slyn, I’m your brother, your real brother I mean...” Slyn stood with a happy smile on his face and he could not contain his excitement. Yet Red was quiet, she stood looking him over up and down over and over like his words didn’t even process right.
“But... my real brother is... gone. I-I’m sorry I just can’t-” Red sighed, “I don’t think I can urm... do or think about this...” And she said little else other than weakly walk past him, disappearing into the depths of the den.
The air was grim and silence carried over the group. “I’ll go find more firewood.” Kerial the only one brave enough to speak wandered off slowly.
Morgan came over to hold the smaller bunnelby close as his introduction didn’t go over so well. “She’s just- just tired and needs some time to think about it Slyn, it’s alright.” With a tear in the little bunnelby’s eye he suddenly perked up a bit, puffing his chest out and following the Houndoom’s foot prints as quickly as he could to get away.
“Alesia why don’t you go see how Red is doing and warm up some honey.” The larger Dragonair pushed her daughter inside with her nose. The little dragon gave her a silent nod as she headed deeper. The Espeon looked defeated next to the proud dragon, “Red’s been through a lot like you said Mrs. Morgan, but she’s strong. It will be better in the morning.”
It was hard for the single tailed Espeon not to sob but she held it back, looking into the deep snow at her feet. “I hope so... I’m just so tired; happy I have my daughter back but... she’s not the same as I remember.”
The dragon snaked her tail around the small pink pokemon’s feet wiping away the snow that clung to her. “Time doesn’t stop while they’re away Mrs. Morgan. They keep growing with or without us.”
The Espeon gave a cold sniffle, “I know...”
