And You Will Keep Me Close || Morgan
Dante couldn't shake the queasiness in his stomach. This was weird. Usually, the nausea didn't come until after Empty Chairs at Empty Tables, because that was when his nerves were most on edge. But here he was, on the barricade, almost certain he was going to vomit. Why? Well, he'd been confused, lately, and as a rule of thumb, Dante didn't handle confusion very well at all. He liked being sure of his near future, and hated feeling like things weren't going in the right direction. And his relationship with Clara was reaching a boiling point with all of the pressure put on them on Valentine's Day, and the growing pressure coming from the fact that maybe it would be more practical if they had an expiration date. Not that that was what Dante wanted...Well, to be honest, he didn't know what he wanted. He wanted a girlfriend. He wanted someone to make him smile, and Clara was doing that plenty, but...there still seemed to be something missing.
People were saying lines, music was being played, fake gunshots played from the soundbooth...He saw Morgan standing, clutching her coat to cover the fake blood...Oh, right, it was time for Little Fall of Rain. Dante heard the music go for a few extra measures, giving him time to catch up with his line as he approached her. "Good God, what are you doing? Ponine, have you no fear? Have you seen my beloved? Why have you come back here?" he sang, and honestly, as the song went on, it was a blur. A nice-sounding, harmonized blur, but a blur nonetheless. By now, the music had become second nature -- Dante didn't really have to think about the words anymore, so his mind wandered...
Wandered to Clara, wandered to Ezra who sat in the pit giving Clara googley-eyes this entire time...Wandered to Morgan, who now sat in his arms and was pretending to die. He couldn't deny that holding her like this felt, in a way, right. It brought his mind to him and Clara, sitting and listening to music or watching movies...Ugh, there his mind went again. Back to Clara. He tried to pull his head back into the song as it got more emotional, "Hush-a-bye, dear Eponine, you won't feel any pain..." he continued.
