Alicent kept her face perfectly still as the Septa scolded her for her silence. Rhaenyra had gone off on her dragon again when they were supposed to be in lessons and Alicent, ever obedient, had instead gone alone to face the old woman’s wrath. Part of her wished she could be like her friend and buck against the rules in place to do something that she truly loved, but the part of her that still felt the sting on her father’s reaction to her disobedience flinched at that thought.

With the scolding done Alicent was free and she raced away to the meeting place already set. Rhaenyra always knew how long she’d be away and usually got to the spots first despite Alicent running as fast as she could. So there was a little thrill in seeing the meeting spot empty and realizing that she had finally beaten her friend there. Slowing down and smoothing her dress Alicent hummed happily, lacing her fingers together as she sat down on the bench that marked the meeting spot.

A few moments passed and Alicent started to get worried, wondering if maybe she had gotten the place wrong. It was a foolish thought because she knew this spot, it was where they always met. But the longer it took for Rhaenyra to show up she started to doubt her memory. She kept her fingers twisted together to keep herself from picking at the skin around her nails as she had been scolded about so many times.

Truly she never knew when she did it until the skin started to sting.

Her leg started bouncing and Alicent finally couldn’t help herself “Rhaenyra where are you?”
