“Hun, come on, I’ll ask again. Do you have a name?” Mary sighed. She didn’t want to torture it, she hadn’t gone off the rails just yet. “The other one clearly understands English… And y’all were together.” She whispered to herself, sipping on her not-allowed-in-the-lab apple juice. “Maybe the green one’s smarter?”

Maybe Mary should’ve mentioned G-II sooner, because the blue-tailed creature in front of her moved. She, no, it turned its head to face the woman in the lab coat. Oh my, it looked sickly, but its eyebrows were raised almost as if it was surprised. Its entire body had twisted, dragging itself forward to the glass. For the first time, B-I had deliberately made eye contact.

B-I hesitated, its mouth opening and closing multiple times. The scientist approached the glass quickly, noting how the subject wasn’t alarmed at her speed. “Yes? Yes, honey. Speak. Say it. Whatever it is, just-” She was interrupted by a melodic, yet small voice.

“Is she here?” English. Plain and simple. B-I spoke to her. She wasn’t sure if it was replication, repetition of what it had heard, or if it really did comprehend her words, but Mary felt her heart quiver. Was it talking about subject G-II? 

“Who?” Mary swallowed a lump that made her throat feel dry. “The… the green one? Who’s like you? Ya know her?” She couldn’t speak normally, it was as if she feared being heard. By the creature? No. By her own conscience? Maybe.

“…Bring me to her. I miss her.” It hesitated again, probably calculating what to say next. Mary frowned. She didn’t say anything to B-II, quickly exiting the room to find her colleagues. At least one of them should know how to handle this, because she knew damn well she couldn’t do it by herself.

‘Fuck. Shut up, morals!’ She repeated in her head. ‘I threw you away when I first set foot in here!’ She rushed to find someone, preferably Rowan or Eddy. Marcus can’t even make a fucking report without breaking down, makes you question the hiring process in this place. She’d seen Marcus’ draft, it was awful. She made tons of corrections on it, made her feel like a damn high school teacher. What, was his PhD fabricated, or somethin’? Connections, maybe? She became increasingly angry not finding the people she wanted. Those ‘things’ were clearly fuckin’ supes, with fully functional human brains. She was told this wasn’t going to be like her previous lab. Just where the fuck was her supervisor when she needed him?
