IN EXILE IN DUSSELDORF, 1981 when UK officials wouldn't let me in to play a show with nick cave & death in june, mute records sent me off to spend a month (or so) with der plan at atatak HQ in dusseldorf. since I already knew a ton about german pop music (esp. girl pop), they turned me on to a few french girls from the 60s, & in turn I introduced them to the exotic sounds of martin denny. an odd fact: when TIKI BOYDS opened, a tiki bar was opened in berlin at virtually the same time by moritz r from der plan. I'm told moritzs tiki mania started with his introduction to martin denny all those many years ago... I'm glad moritz posted this picture, it reminds me of the wonderful time I spent with him & frank & kurt. Die gute alte Zeit Ata Tak, Düsseldorf, 1981 — with Boyd Rice. People places memories.

Don't believe the hype!
