The Eight Deities of Morryn (Wall of Text incoming).
Morryn is home to seven goddesses and one male ”god”. The seven goddesses are the final survivors of the godwar that started the godfall and turned Morryn into a twilight world. Most of them are fairly young by god standards, with only one being as old (or older) than Morryn itself. Nearly all of them were minor tribal or specialized deities before the godfall, but have taken up the necessary mantles and responsibilities needed to keep the world functioning.
Note: Several of these deities have been sourced from other sources, Erathis, Ioun, and the Raven Queen originate in 4E D&D, while Gaea is a cthonic deity from the eastern parts of the Mediterranean most commonly associated with Olympic mythology.
Originally a minor goddess of engineering, she has grown into the role as the guardian of civilization. Her most noticeable feat however was that she convinced a clan of minotaurs to turn from demon worship and chaos, and turn towards civilization and order. Since then, most minotaurs in Morryn have given up their former ways and joined the other civilized races in trying to ensure the survival of society. Erathis's fortifications is one of the primary reasons the seven goddesses survived the godwar and the godfall.
She is in a relationship with Ioun, and they often share a temple when worshiped.
Erathis appears as young human woman with black hair and blue/grey eyes. Her body is well toned, and she is usually dressed in practical clothes colored in greys and blues, she usually carries a large hammer with her, as well as several books and scrolls.
Erathis is associated with owls, labyrinths, law, planning, and the colors of light grey and deep blue. Her holy symbol is a hammer and her favored weapon is the Warhammer. Her alignment is Lawful Neutral.
Fel-Temara is the sole surviving evil goddess in Morryn, originally associated with poisons and drugs, she has since grown to encompass medicine and healing as well. She is the favored deity or rogues and alchemists.
When the Godwar started, Fel-Temara wanted nothing to do with the other evil deities plans, and tried to warn both the deities of good and deities of neutrality of what they had planned, but was met with nothing but hostility for what she was. Seeing no other option than to either follow the other evil deities into a venture than she knew was foolish or sitting the whole thing out, she chose the latter. Disguising herself on the mortal plane as a lizard and hiding in a forest hollow until the war was over. After the war was done, she assumed mortal form and wrapped herself in a cloak of roses to hide herself from the remaining deities. After the battle between the Firstborn of Xaos and Wanderer, she no longer hides her divine nature.
Fel-Temara is associated with drugs, medicine, poisons, roses, healing, and the colors dark green, red, and black. Her holy symbol is a red rose on a black background, and her favored weapon is the dagger. Her alignment is Lawful Evil.
The oldest remaining deity in Morryn, the Earth Mother is the child of Xaos and Nyx, and sibling to the Firstborn of Xaos. But where the Firstborn is omnicidal and psychotic, Gaea is protective and nurturing. Even before the godwar, Gaea was one of the most powerful of the Morryn deities, and her power has only grown since. Every living non-divine thing on Morryn owes part of their existence to Gaea, as she is the embodiment of the wellspring of life, and the personification of the natural order. Unsurprisingly she is mostly worshiped by people who spend a lot of time in nature, such as druids and rangers.
She resembles a mature woman of indeterminate race, indeed, every species sapient or not see her as one of their own, and is usually dressed in browns and greens. She can only be described accurately as motherly.
Gaea is associated with nature, life, and the elements there in. Her colors are green and brown. Her holy symbol is a vine wrapped around a branch, and her favored weapon is the quarterstaff. Her alignment is Neutral.
Ioun was originally a relatively unknown deity of prophecy and divination, but has since grown to encompass magic as a whole. Prior to the godwar and godfall, Ioun foresaw what would happen due to her prophetic abilities, and knowing she could not prevent the event, took steps to circumvent it and ensure that at least some deities would survive and that life would continue on Morryn. It is even rumored that it was she who called Wanderer to Morryn to oppose the Firstborn of Xaos.
Although her abilities make her seem distant and emotionless, she is nevertheless in a very loving relationship with Erathis, and the two goddesses are rarely found far from each other, and are usually worshiped in shared temples. She is primarily worshiped by spell casters of all types.
She resembles a half-elven or eladrin woman with pale hair and green eyes. She usually dresses in a simple wizards robe or dress in the colors of yellow and purple, and with a lotus flower in her hair.
Ioun is associated with fate, luck, magic, prophecy, and lotus flowers. Her colors are yellow and purple. Her holy symbol is an open book and her favored weapon is the staff. Her alignment is Neutral.
Originally a minor tribal goddess of passing from life to death, Raven Queen has since grown to become a proper goddess of Death. Death being a natural part of the life cycle, it is neither good or evil, as such she is in no way antagonistic towards mortals, no matter their alignment or beliefs, and only outright loathes undead. But even then, she considers the undead cursed, and beseech her clergy and any adventurer that will listen to free the cursed from their shambling shells. Unsurprisingly necromancers do not get along with her worshipers. Her paladins will oppose undead wherever they find them, and will often meet their end by engaging an undead creature that far outstrips them in power.
Since the godfall, she has become friends with Fel-Temara, despite her initial misgivings, and it is not unusual for the clergy of both goddesses to aid each other.
Raven Queen resembles a pale but beautiful young woman with dark or black hair and dressed in somber colors. In contrast to this appearance, she is usually an upbeat and happy girl.
Raven Queen is associated with death, ravens, passing on, funeral rites, protection, and the glory in bringing the walking dead to rest. Her colors are black and grey. Her Holy Symbol is a raven's feather, and her favored weapon is the mace. Her alignment is Neutral.
Saevia was originally a minor elven deity of the stormwinds, who after the godfall grew into a major storm goddess. Saevia is hot-headed and quick to action, and had to be restrained from engaging the other gods during the god war, and later the Firstborn of Xaos. She does not think, she acts. However, the other neutral gods knew that she would have attacked both sides indiscriminately and eventually suicided herself on the Firstborn of Xaos. However, even when restrained she was an effective guardian of the neutral goddesses, calling down torrential rains, lightning, and hurricane force winds to keep those who wished them harm at bay.
A temperamental and fickle deity, those who work the seas often perform a small ritual or sacrifice before leaving port to appease her, something she enjoys immensely. But even that does not always guarantee ones safety on the sea, as storms are a common occurrence. She revels in the chaos inherent in the storm, and can usually be found dancing upon the winds in her storms.
Saevia resembles a young elven woman with traits from all three elven races, with ashen grey skin, pale hair, deep emerald green eyes, and a lithe but well toned body. She wears very little clothing if any at all.
Saevia is associated with storms, weather, the sea, freedom, destruction, and luck. Her colors are blue, grey, and green. Her holy symbol is a rain cloud with three lightning bolts striking down from it, and her favored weapon is the spear. Her alignment is Chaotic Neutral.
Veris is the youngest deity that survived the godwar and godfall, barely an adult by the standards of deities. She was given to Gaea to protect when the war started, and as such was spared most of the horrors of war. Despite her youth, she has taken to her role as one of the seven goddesses with a nearly uncharacteristic seriousness that is in stark contrast to her friendly, somewhat naive, and bubbly personality.
Originally a goddess representing childhood, she has grown to encompass all forms of youth, beauty, and growth. She was the one goddess willing to listen to Fel-Temara after the godfall before Wanderer stepped in, and although they are very different in alignment, Fel-Temara is very protective of Veris.
Veris appears as young human or elven woman, barely out of childhood with a small frame. She is reddish-blonde and have blue eyes, and tends to dress in simple dresses in light green, blue, yellow, or pink.
Veris is associated with youth, beauty, light, spring, and growing up. Her colors are spring green and sky blue. Her holy symbol is a wreath of flowers and her favored weapon is the staff. Her alignment is Neutral Good.
Wanderer is technically not a god, but rather a humanoid abomination from elsewhere. Ioun opened up the doorway between Morryn and the realms beyond to let him in to deal with the freed Firstborn of Xaos. She knew that even if Wanderer did not manage to slay the other abomination, the latter would then have been weakened enough that the remaining goddesses would have a decent chance deal with him. Fortunately for the world of Morryn, Wanderer managed to slay the foul one, and then expended most of his remaining power to banish the corpse to the empty realm between the stars. The battle between the two was not without cost however, as it plunged the world into darkness and gave rise to many aberrations and other horrors, but also things that gave mortals a way to resist the encroaching shadows.
The biggest secret that the high priests of his clergy hold is that their divine magic is not granted by Wanderer, as he is not technically a deity. Whether their spells and powers are granted by the seven goddesses, the clergy's faith in Wanderer, or by another source is entirely unknown by mortals.
Wanderer resembles a humanoid male of any race or build. Indeed, no two persons see the same appearance when he is met, which happens fairly often as he, as his name implies, wanders around Morryn. The few spell casters who have used true seeing to discern his true appearance have all been struck blind by the experience, as their eyes have burned out. Said spell casters have said that looking at his true form is akin to looking straight at the sun at very close range.
Wanderer is associated with strength, luck, protection, travel, trade, and adventure, he is not associated with any colors. His holy symbol is a pair of crossed swords with bone hilts on a white background, and his favored weapon is the longsword. His alignment is Neutral.
