canon era| Arthur POV | pining | duty vs desire
Arthur knew perfectly well what a knight was meant to be.
A knight is battles, tourneys, deeds—not secret longing kept under lock and key.
A knight is will, discipline, severity. He does not show weakness before an enemy, nor wear his true desires on his face. And he certainly does not stare at another man’s mouth—no, not even when it’s pink, well-defined, infuriatingly inviting.
A knight risks himself for glory, for decent prizes, for the favor of noble fair ladies. Most certainly not for the sake of a lanky, clumsy, irreverent manservant—no matter that he has the bluest eyes and the plushest lips in the world.
Yes, Arthur knew all this—and still he stubbornly rode for the Forests of Balor, hunting the Mortaeus Flower, hoping to save the life of the one closest to his heart.
