I'm not done watching the show, but I remember one thing from the books and that was Max's death. But I just read somewhere that the show doesn't follow through with that and it just feels- wrong? To me? Because Sebastian killed him. He killed him and he killed him so brutally and I GET why the show didn't include it, no one wants to see that ending for a kid, but it's what happened and it feels like the pain just got erased like it doesn't matter because look!
