Crail graveyard with castellated morthouse in the distance. The morthouse was built in the mid 1820s to store bodies of the recently deceased for several weeks until such time as they would no longer be of interest to the resurrection men. Although the Anatomy Act of 1832 put an end to the legally murky supply of stolen bodies to medical schools, fear of the body snatchers took a while to dissipate so I imagine the morthouse would have continued in use for some years after it became technically obsolete.
