"tough question, depending." on who you are, on who they are --- never really what ' it ' was being done. moby mulled about it. she thought about this sort of question so often but her moral standard was... skewered. skewered and always tilting so heavily in favor of her own self interest to protect what she held close. but if it was without danger and was merely a silly, mundane thing, it wasn't any service to those in her care to make them dependent. sometimes, self-sufficiency needed to be taught. "to help someone you care about who cannot help themselves, do your best. to protect someone you love--- do your worst. give everything, do anything." she watches her, the lines in her brow and that subtle pout in her lips. "we can talk about it if you want, but you'll need to tell me more. in the end, the decision remains yours either way."

lizzie's first instinct was to send an acid-tipped barb right into the heart of this cruel little attempt to philosophize— to bite. to claw. trading hurt for perceived hurt. but she remains there, stone-still and sharply contorted into some posh imitation of comfort. it's not lizzie receiving guests but mrs. shelby: the edifice of her improbable metamorphosis. she lowers her glass, harder than she intends, the collisional clink of crystal on wood punctuating the unspoken. her fingertips disrupting the fine lace of condensation, sending worming little droplets down its side.

"But is love such a bad thing? I feel as if it's one of the few things that keeps us grounded. Then again, I often find that I am the odd one out for wanting to keep my humanity." Louis laughs a little and then sighs, resting his head against the window. He knows that he can't keep up this self-imposed isolation forever, but he always feels so out of place when speaking to others of his kind. Whether or not that's a bad thing, he hasn't really decided.

There's a beat of silence as he glances over at her, trying to figure out if there really is a good or right thing to say. He's been alone for so long that reading others is a talent often lost on him. "I have not loved in a long time, I'll admit. It was too..." Too much. Too painful. Too choking. Did he love Lestat? In his own way, maybe. Whatever they had wasn't anything good, but there is some deep, twisted part of him that will always yearn for it. He did love Claudia like his own daughter. He would've done anything for her, but it wasn't enough in the end.

"It was complicated. That's all I can really say."

he holds onto the dagger more tightly behind his back, beneath the thick cloth of his jacket. it might look strange how he seems backed into the corner of an alleyway by a woman as petite as her. but he knows that she isn't only that. exceptional strength likely sleeps within that slim figure.

he knows her kind — a creature of the night. he does not bow to them. and he is not afraid of them. but he knows what they are capable of, and what it is beneath his skin that draws them in. they can be cruel and stop at nothing to get to that warm substance of life. no matter the human life that is in their way.

❛ i don't know what you're talking about. ❜ a frown forms on his face. a deep crease sits between his brows as he struggles to find an explanation for her words. something about them speaks to him. a second chance. and that scares him more than her teeth or her strength or her speed. they sound like she knows more about him than any stranger should.

her kind is capable of that, he's experienced it before. which is perhaps their greatest advantage over him. his mind is his weakest part.
