if Lackland was the youngest son, of the youngest brother of the earl of Agincourt, and yet he somehow became Earl in the end of the book does that mean like.... his dad, his brothers and all his uncles are dead. "Care to stop by Ulrich's for a drink?" "But-" Morton protests. After a few months here he had still not become accustomed to the casual contradictions of his companion. "No drinks?" Rabenmark asks, pausing with an eyebrow raised. "Yes, Ulrich's sounds wonderful" Morton says quickly, though silently bemoaning his new habit of mid-day drinking, "But your earlier statement was a contradiction, to be infamous is to live on in memory"

"Yes, yes I suppose in English it could be understood that way," Rabenmark says, deftly dodging a buggy as he takes the corner towards the Albaner Gate. "But you recall what I told you in my lodgings when we first met here, that a student's life is nothing like that of a German. I will be infamous as a student, but as a German, I doubt many will remember my name," "I would not be so sure of that," Morton replies. "You are perhaps the most fascinating person I have ever met. I do believe you could change the world if you set your mind to it," "There are thousands of fascinating students across all universities, year after year, and yet not one of them has shaped the course of history. Why should I presume to be any different?" Morton bites the inside of his cheek the way he always does when he knows he doesn't have a good point. "Do you think Toggenburg will be at Ulrich's?" He asks instead, shifting the conversation and hoping that Rabenmark doesn't notice. "I believe he takes instruction with Hugo this hour — which is to say he will almost certainly be there," Rabenmark says. "Though if we are to catch him, we must hurry" Morton snorts and quickens his pace, all worries of the previous conversation forgotten. Yet even as he watched Rabenmark drain a tankard of beer with the sun at high noon, he couldn't shake the feeling that he was watching history be made.
