Two masks had been released from Kakuzu’s back, the beasts of slick tendrils at work while their master sat idly by. Wind dug at the ground, a crater deep enough to shroud it from view growing even larger with each scoop of earth it threw upward, while Lightning prowled at the outskirts of the clearing to keep the deer at bay. Kakuzu rested on a fallen tree, elbows on his knees and fingers laced together. Black eyes didn’t leave the pit.
This was taking much longer than he anticipated...
It was then he heard something. What, he couldn’t discern, but he stood regardless. Only a few steps were needed to reach the edge of where the Wind beast sat within the hole. The creature was prodding (gently) at what Kakuzu had quickly discovered was a head. And while he knew exactly whose head it was the amount of decomposition had made his partner almost unrecognizable.
❝Mm... There you are.❞
