why is it impossible?
Focusing on how to make our current economic system compatible with environmental needs is just a huge amount of time we're loosing. it's impossible because the capitalistic economic system thrives on limitless exploitation of resources and is in constant search of new markets to invest in, no matter what. Also, there is the fact that those resources aren't properly shared (we actually have enough for the time being). But I don't see how it is possible to keep such a destructive economic system and to find a solution to all those issues in the same time, no matter how much you soften the effects of the current economic system we have.
