Itineraries in Exploring Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A wide angle view looking to the east while hiking the Mosca Pass Trail in the Sangre De Cristo Wilderness in the preserve portion of Great Sand Dunes National Park. The idea with this image was to use the wider angle view to capture the mountainside on both sides as I hiked to the pass still several miles away at that point. The earth tones in the lower and middle portion of the image were that color contrast that complemented the blues of the skies above.

Exploration Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve! by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While hiking the Mosca Pass Trail in Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve with a view looking to the west from where I’d walked. Ridges from the Sangre de Cristo Range came down on both sides, so in some ways they focused the setting to the more distant view with the sand dunes where I’d walked earlier that morning. I liked how the “darker” hues with the trees in the bottom of the image and blues in the upper portion were that color contrast with the brighter hues of the sands in the image center. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 3 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.
