An Alaska Escape in Denali State Park (Black & White) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A view looking across Byers Lake to the east while walking along the shoreline and Byers Lake Trail in Denali State Park. What drew me into this image, well, it was more of that peaceful, serene view with the calm lake waters and mountains, all balanced between “reality” above and reflections below. After some initial work with contrast, brightness and saturation in DxO PhotoLab 3, I made a conversion to black & white using Silver Efex Pro 2 where I made some adjustments to color filters to bring out a much richer tonal contrast for the final image.

Itineraries in Exploring Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A wide angle view looking to the east while hiking the Mosca Pass Trail in the Sangre De Cristo Wilderness in the preserve portion of Great Sand Dunes National Park. The idea with this image was to use the wider angle view to capture the mountainside on both sides as I hiked to the pass still several miles away at that point. The earth tones in the lower and middle portion of the image were that color contrast that complemented the blues of the skies above.

In the Wake of My Travels in the Gulf of Mexico by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: During my voyage aboard the Yankee Freedom Ferry bound for Dry Tortugas National Park, I was captivated by the breathtaking scenery that presented itself as an ideal opportunity to capture an image. The location is situated just to the southwest of Key West, not too far from our departure point. The setting is with a view to the east-northeast and stern of the ship.

Heading into a New Day on a Boat Ride to Dry Tortugas National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While aboard the Yankee Freedom Ferry en route to Dry Tortugas National Park, I was taken in with this breathtaking setting for an image to capture with the American Flag, the blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico, and the blue sky sunshine. The location is just to the southwest of Key West, not too long after departing. The setting is to the east-northeast and stern of the ship.

Moon Rising Over Pyramid Peak. (Death Valley National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: At a roadside pullout location around the park entrance with a view looking to the east to some nearby mountains with the Moon rising in the skies above. I was drawn to both of the color patterns of the layers of rocks in the mountainside, as well as the simple beauty of watching the moon rise above it.
