New York City’s Top 5 Designers on the Rise.
Among our favorite notoriously known designers like Chanel, Givenchy, and Balmain there happens to be an unconventional crop of young designers who are not quite as seasoned. These fresh faces are slowly yet surely paving the runways and streets of New York City. Their innovative and intelligent designs have been noticed by the folks over at Vogue who have reviewed more than 400 labels this past season. Let’s meet Vogue’s pick for New York’s top five fashion designers on the rise.
1. Alyx
Designer: Matthew Williams
Founded: 2015
Need to know: Matthew Williams was once a creative director for famous celebs like Lady Gaga and even Kanye West. Finally, after years of work he was able to turn out your not so basic, luxury basics line, Alyx – named after his daughter. His looks are a based on a mix of 80s inspired glam rock and 90’s grunge with skate and graphic tees.

2. Vaquera
Designers: Patric Dicaprio, David Moses, and Bryn Taubensee
Founded: 2014
Need to know: Founder Patric Dicaprio mixes New York’s deconstruction movement with his Southern routes displaying a contemporary and youthful vision. From prairie bonnets to blouson tops Vacquera embodies a signature style unlike any other.

3. Moses Gauntlett Cheng (MGC)
Designers: Esther Gauntlett and Jenny Cheng
Founded: 2015
Need to know: MGC is a post-gender and shameless label. Recently becoming a hit at the Vfiles spring 2016 runway show, its sophomore collection had quickly sold out.

4. Pyer Moss
Designer: Kerby Jean-Raymond
Founded: 2014
Need to know: As a semi seasoned young designer Kerby’s collections tend to focus on major social and economical issues such as “Black Lives Matter”, and the 1906 captivity of Congolese man Ota Benga.
For his fall 2016 collection the overall theme was the Great Depression. He even teamed up with soulful singer Erykah Badu who helped style the collection. His clothing tends to be streetwise and works on either sex.

Need to Know: Designer Shan Huq creates sporty, colorful, and cool looks by mixing together club-kid wear and popular culture.
