Tumblr queue seems to be broken? So if you are suddenly bombarded with posts I’m very sorry
When I was a teenager when I lived with my parents, my bedroom was in the basement, and as such they didn’t particularly care what I did to my walls, ceiling etc
Which is why they didn’t care at all when, at age 13 in the mid-2000′s, I told them I was going to paint my walls with 6 foot tall murals of my favorite anime characters at the time.
Now, my parents have turned my old bedroom into a family room but refuse to cover up my adolescent shame, and every time I go over to visit I’m confronted with the troubling reality of the towering, hand-painted Inuyasha glowering at me from on high, reminding me I can never truly escape the sins of my past.
A warm breeze and the sound of spring’s first peep frogs makes me feel like I could flip an SUV over
Had a dream last night where I went to a craft fair and there was a woman at a sort of shoddy looking table who at first blush appeared to be just reselling my old pieces under the pretense that she hand made them, but then I took a closer look and realized she was selling exact recreations of my pieces but with the shoddiest imaginable craftsmanship. Ribbons of resin hung off the side, plant material poking out the back, and the resin was actually just a thin shell over the plant material so thin I could break it with my fingernail and pull out the moss inside. Also her “shop name” was like “Moss in the Forest” or some other close knock off approximation.
Anyway I looked at her like “hey these look a lot like... uh...” and she gave me a look like “😬” and I looked at her like “😬” and then I just walked away and pretended like I didn’t see it because I didn’t wanna deal with it.
I've been taking walks through the nearby cemetery a few days a week, and I always feel compelled to take a quick shot of the sunset over Mt. Greylock.
First Alehoof of the year, impossible to contain my excitement! 🌿
I apologize for being on something of a mini-hiatus with my shop. The reason for that is, for the most part, I am in the process of making some new things for the shop and am taking the time away to make sure they get done.
It’s taken me years to finally come to terms with it, but with my adhd and how many plates I have spinning all the time (I’m currently also still running a Patreon for my photography and also fervently learning 3d modelling/taking 3d model commissions), it’s just not really possible for me to dedicate the same amount of energy to both inventing new pieces while also making older style pieces, photographing them, marketing them, putting them in my shop, writing a newsletter and social media posts, etc etc. Trying to do both at the same time just results in both getting done slowly and not as well as I would like.
It’s why I will constantly posture about making changes to the shop or making new products that half the time never get done, while also putting out the same style of necklaces exclusively for a year.
So I’m giving myself some time, now, to just design new pieces, create their molds, and get everything ready for when I’m good and ready to reveal them.
At the moment, my hope and plan is to have moss necklaces - which I can afford to sell slightly cheaper than their floral counterparts - a more constantly available thing and to have several different styles of them in stock. I’m bringing back my crystal shaped necklaces in all three sizes, this time with much smoother and uniform proportions and edges - a flaw that made me retire them initially.
I also want to venture more into larger, non jewelry, home decor pieces. I would love to make larger, showy wall hangers like real herbarium mounts. I’m also building some little prism statue type things, meant to contain a single specimen while also refract sunlight if placed on a windowsill.
I also want to build some small photo sets in order to better photograph my products - I’ve felt my product photos too samey for too long.
Lastly I also want to a much needed overhaul of my website to make it more readable and traversable - show categories and new products very clearly up front.
In the meantime, since my shop is basically my only form of income and money is very tight, I have plenty of things still available to buy from my shop right now and your support would mean the world to me.
