there are days i see this sign, and all i can think is, “i only have 40 minutes until i am finally home.”
there are days i see this sign, and the memory of the time we were laying in my bed, watching princess mononoke, and you kissed my knee - hits me like a fist to the face from a best friend.
other days, i see this sign, and am glad i won’t run into you anywhere or see you when i am walking.
the other day, this sign reminded me of the the first time i ever had jack in the box - on the hood of your car in the parking lot of our old favorite bar, trying to sober up enough to go inside and have a few drinks - sharing kisses that tasted like warm butter and cold whiskey.
today the sign reminds me of you, laying on your back on my bedroom floor. “i think we should break up. is that okay?” it reminds me of the way you would smile mid-kiss or say things like, “i need more room,” in your sleep and then wrap yourself completely around me. someday, hopefully soon, i will see it and think, “ I-5 South Olympia”.
