“Ugh,” Hope sighed, resting her head in her hands.  Beside her was a precarious stack of books, exactly none of which were helping to sort out what had changed the world so dramatically or what she could do about it.  Reaching out with one hand, she swept the pile over without even looking up.  “I can’t believe people actually do research like this every day.”

“And I’m telling you that Freebird is a terrible song,” Jackson poked the man across from him in the chest.  “People just yell it out because they’re stupid.”  The slurring in his voice was getting heavy, the product of a tolerance that had been severely lowered since becoming human.  “I mean I could show up to concerts and yell ‘run joey run!’ but that wouldn’t make it a good song.”

There was a moment’s silence and the drunk across from him punched him square in the jaw.  Jackson fell back off his stool and hit the floor, laughing uproariously.  It had been a long time since he’d really felt a punch like that.  “Damn, I found the one person alive who likes run joey run.”

The plates that were set in front of her she was sure looked like way too much to others but for the former vampire, all she wanted more than anything was to try and taste at least a little bit of every single food that had seemed to dull in comparison to that of blood when she was a vampire. “I don’t get what the big deal is,” the blonde chimed. “I’m kind of loving this whole no longer a vampire thing.”

“Juuust great,” Belle said to herself with a nod. “ What the hell is going on?” asked herself. She was walking in the park trying to figure her magic out. She stopped for a moment and stared at a pot of flowers. Remembering what her cousin Bonnie told her, to focus on one emotion only then let go. 

Belle then straightened her body, cleared her throat, then closed her eyes. She took a deep breath before opening her eyes again she whispered, “Phasmatos Incendia--” . She waited for a moment and groaned before leaning her head back. “ I finally start to get the hang of it all and this happens,” she said as she shook her head.

It was impossible to overstate how difficult everyone’s lives had gotten overnight.  With no powers Theresa had to try and stumble through her daily life without any of the tools that made it easier.  When she couldn’t plant thoughts in people’s heads she was merely a young woman who was legally dead, with no bank account or identification of any kind.  Fortunately her cousin had helped her secure an ID, but now she was busily arguing with a hiring manager at a potential new job because she didn’t have an account to direct deposit her pay into - and they weren’t going to hire her because of it.

“Never mind,” she scoffed, turning and nearly running into a passerby.  “I’m so sorry, I didn’t even hear you coming.”

As she watched a few of the formerly supernatural residents of Mystic Falls struggle just shopping for groceries, Freya was glad that she and Keelin had lived a somewhat normal existence - Keelin for longer than her.  They were in a better position than a lot of people who’d been affected by the change in the world, and it felt good to know that they wouldn’t have any trouble taking care of Nik or Savana.  “The card goes that way,” she gestured to help the person at the till in front of her.  “Yep, all the way in.  Then your pin number.”  It was the least she could do, but she also hoped to get out of the store before her own groceries went bad.  Looking behind her to find someone holding only a few items, she gestured them ahead.  “No sense you waiting longer than you have to.”

event: brave new world ( the wishes you couldn’t burn, part one )

as the party ends and the slugs are expelled from the guests a new creature is released from malivore. and in hope’s fear of the threat that the hollow poses to her family, the jinni approaches her. with kindness on its lips, hope doesn’t know what she is doing when she flippantly makes her wish: a wish to rid the world of the hollow. in the blink of an eye, the world has changed.  hope’s wish (as interpreted and twisted by the jinni) has transformed reality, and in this new world magic doesn’t exist. no magic, after all, no hollow - an elegantly simple solution. but no magic also means no vampires, no witches, no werewolves, and most importantly for the jinni, no malivore. the wording of hope’s wish has preserved mystic falls, and the people therein - mind, body, and soul, with their histories and old lives intact despite the change. but all of them are human now, powers gone and a new life to adjust to. the salvatore school, once a place to teach young supernaturals how to live in a human world, now stands as a beacon for those who have been transformed. a place for the newly human to learn how to exist without what made them different. what made them powerful. for some, the change may be a blessing. for others...well, it may be the worst thing they could imagine.

what does this mean? all characters, no matter their species, are now human. aside from the obvious physical changes that come with that, characters are identical to their pre-wish selves. i.e. pregnant characters are still pregnant, everyone’s memories are retained, and all of them are aware that the world is not as it was.

Shoving the door open as hard as she could muster, the blonde stormed into the home, heels clicking fast against the tile flooring before coming to a halt at the foot of the stairs. “Elijah Mikaelson,” she hollered, certain the whole town could hear her. “You get you bloody arse down here, you bastard.”
