We have two layers of screens in our trap! It does a really good job of giving the moths something to hold on to before they die and keeps them from messing each other up too much.

what are moth traps and where can you get them?

A moth trap, to catch moths for study, is basically a light and something for moths to rest on, usually egg boxes stacked in a box or container.  There are several designs.  I'm not going to recommend a supplier, but you can find them on the web.  Watch out for traps designed to get rid of pests - that's a quite different type of trap! Mine is a Skinner moth trap.  If you google that, or something like Moth Trapping For Beginners, you will find plenty of information.  

I photograph moths and then let them go.  Others try to identify them all on the spot, then let them go; or put them in plastic pots for a few hours to look at them more closely, then let them go.  I don't harm any moths and I don't suggest that anyone else does so.
