follows a woman investigating strange deaths in a mine in a small Appalachian town, trying to get the company to take responsibility for her friend’s death

when she finds an odd woman in the creek, with no memories of her past or even her name, they investigate together, and she slowly gains her memories back as they discover more about the magic of the mountain

I found it a bit slow and not as atmospheric as it could be.#some interesting elements but I don’t have any particular strong feelings #the snake handling church thing?? is interesting. would have liked if there was a bit more of it #also I don't usually make a habit of reading books by white authors writing Black MCs #(or any characters of colour. in books set in the real world.) (i'm pretty sure the author is white anyway)#I guess I just feel like I've read a lot of witchy/folk horror/etc books and this one didnt stand out. it's not bad by any means #pretty cover tho
