I can always count on my mom for a good conversation.
And I'm not talking about motherly parental skills with her words of wisdom. I think every parent knows at least that much when it comes to giving advice. I'm talking about intellectual conversations. Honestly, I get more and more amazed everyday about how my mom knows so much in so many aspects. I mean, that's really not a surprise seeing that everyday when she gets home after an 8-hour day at work (sometimes more), she watches the news (O'Reilly Factor, CNN, etc.), uses the internet to learn even more news, watches her Tagalog shows on TFC or other local English shows, and ends the day by watching the local news at night. That's on top of cooking, cleaning, etc. When she has time to spare, she reads. When she seriously has extra time to spare, she does crossword puzzles. It's like a ritual. I guess what I'm saying is that I don't really expect this from someone who has a full-time job? I go to school full-time and have a part-time job. At the end of the day, all I wanna do is eat and sleep because I'm tired as hell. If I hear about any news, great. If I don't, I could care less. But my mom over her not only keeps up with what's going on in this country and in the Philippines, she also keeps up with worldwide news. Hell, she even knows more celebrity news than I do! I can't even tell you how many couples who got together/broke up she has updated me with.
Today, we were having a conversation about the upcoming election. Then out of nowhere she starts talking about how Israel's president also wants to have an immediate election cause he apparently wants to attack Iran already. Lol, let's jump continents why don't we? Other than the obvious reasons of nuclear mass destruction, she gave me the history of why those two countries just don't get along, which can be dated all the way back to the biblical days . . . which she also covered. The whole time she was talking, I was thinking to myself, "Wow, it's amazing how she knows so many things. I feel kinda stupid." Actually, I always say that to myself whenever she talks to me about something I have no idea about regarding any news. Haha. Seriously, she is never outdated when it comes to these things! I figured she told me about this whole Israel-Iran business because she assumed Arie (who's half-Israeli) and I have talked about this? I don't even think he knows about this. Haha. Learning is beautiful and there's not that many people I can have these kinds of conversations with. It's nice. (:
I also think it's cute how she tries to suggest music for me to listen to. Sometime last week, she told me to look up Lana Del Rey and Marina and the Diamonds. I was beyond surprised she knew about them. Little did she know that I'm a year ahead of her when it comes to discovering them. Haha A for effort though! But it's kinda getting to me how she just can't seem to stop singing Summertime Sadness out loud . . .
