AeroMIDI Promises New Dimensions In MIDI Control
Three dimensional controls over your music making software sounds nice, but in reality the software is not yet where it should be. What developers have found out the hard way is that working with three dimensions is not as easy as working with two dimensions. With that third dimension you begin creating shapes out of two dimensional objects. A circular motion now becomes a cylindrical or spherical shape, and as simple wave form becomes something like a complex multiple integral. It is like going back to calculus three classes all over again. Some companies have tried different strategies to make the software easier to use for both the creator and the user. [embed width="656"]http://youtu.be/iaOwRgXBC6Y[/embed] Aero MIDI uses the Leap Motion controller and forces the hardware to keep track of any sort of movement in free space. Although this sounds delightful, it is not as simple as being able to wave your hands anywhere you want in space – you are sort of limited to geometrical shapes. In this case, the three D cube has been used to give the MIDI controller an object to see being manipulated. Like some (actually one guy on Synthtopia, who appears to be purely speculating- ed.) users have reported, it often feels clunky and hard to work with; it just isn’t where it needs to be yet. http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2013/06/07/aeromidi-promises-new-dimensions-in-midi-control/
