Fusionfall Bases and Outposts Headcanons: Mount Blackhead
Formally the KND Jungle Outpost, this base was already well-prepped and secured prior to Fuse’s invasion. As the largest base in the Wilds, its the heart of all activity there–from acting as a travel hub, to training Fusion Fighters, to dominating trade. As much as Fuse tries, it’s one of Earth’s finest strongholds that’s unlikely to fall anytime soon.
When the outpost was initially constructed, it was with the intention to build a treehouse in the Magic Tree, just like most all KND bases. However, after finding out that the tree was sentient, KND operatives soon changed their minds. Both sides were able to come up with an agreement: The KND could establish their outpost around the Magic Tree, offering him protection and company, and he would help them with his magic when he could.
Although the Magic Tree has grown to a tremendous size after being replanted at Mount Blackhead, it doesn’t seem to have the power to grant wishes as it used to. It’s likely due to the tree being in a much weaker state than when it was first planted in Nowhere, Eustace’s having once cut it down effectively “scarring” it in some way. However, it may also be to the tree having better control over its wishing powers as well as a greater wisdom to the dangers of them–therefore refusing to use said abilities lightly. Fusion matter in the earth also seems to have weakened it, although not to the extreme of the Dark Tree in the Dark Glade.
More often than with new recruits, Fusion Fighters as a whole will train at Mount Blackhead to better their skills–particularly with wilderness training. This includes Fusion Fighters who may otherwise be denied access to certain equipment or areas due to lacking the skill necessary for them.
The base is still primarily under KND authority, with Numbuh 3 and Numbuh 4 acting as co-leaders among a few other operatives. Leadership roles are often divided among them: 3 and 4 tend to oversee all missions and focus on the Wild’s defenses while other operatives under them head areas such as regulating patrols/guard shifts, basic maintenance on the base, and overseeing training.
Protecting Coco is a matter of high concern for all Fusion Fighters stationed there, due to Fuse’s extreme interest in her and Coco’s supplying of resources through her eggs. Even when Mac’s with her, there’s usually someone else keeping an eye on her for her own safety.
The base is fashioned almost like a small village, with a shopping district, recreation area, and several barracks for Fusion Fighters to live in–both on the ground and in the trees.
While there’s always work to do, keeping all Fusion Fighters there on regular shifts, they still have some down time usually spent either relaxing in the barracks, playing games, or checking out the latest goods available for trade. Many Fusion Fighters just passing through the area often do so simply because of the heavy amount of trade regulated there.
