Candy is associated with the holiday season, so I thought this photo, taken in summer, is appropriate. My French lesson a few weeks ago concerned the meaning of “berlingot.” I had thought it was a generic name for hard candy, but in Provence it turns out to be a specific type of candy produced in the region of Carpentras. The name is also used for another kind of candy produced in Nantes in northern France. Both types are excellent.
