I’m determined to draw all of ThunderClan before Christmas!!! So these are Spiderfang and Mousepaw/leap. They are the medicine cat and medicine cat apprentice respectively.
When Spiderfang was Spiderpaw he was a warrior apprentice that wasn’t good at either hunting or fighting. He was on friendly terms with the medicine cat at the time, Longfang, and often stopped by to make small chat. Unfortunately Longfang was taken away by twolegs which left Thunderclan without a medicine cat, as Longfang didn’t have any apprentices. His mentor and leader constantly pressured him to become a medicine cat as he was the only one that had the tiniest bit of knowledge of herbs. For long he refused as he really wanted to be a warrior, but soon the pressure from his clanmates made him give in and he became a medicine cat without any proper training. He inherited Longfang’s suffix which only put more weight on his shoulders. His complete inexperience with herbs led to a few deaths which made him feel guilty and unworthy. Spiderfang would spend all the free time he had trying to figure out which herbs do which helped by his clanmates which knew as little as him about medicine. These accidental deaths became so frequent that the leader forced him to go to RiverClan and get mentored by their medicine cat. This made Spiderfang feel even worse and the entirety of ThunderClan was mocked by the other clans for having an useless medicine cat. After this period of mentoring Spiderfang was ready to go back to ThunderClan having learned all he needed to be a functioning medicine cat. In his time in RiverClan he developed a mild addiction to poppy seeds which he used to try and stay awake as long as possible to sort herbs and review their use to try and impress his mentor. He brought this habit with him in ThunderClan. Personality wise he’s a straightfoward, snappy and always agitated because of how little he sleeps. Despite the training he did in RiverClan, he still isn’t a perfect medicine cat and still messes up from time to time. Due to the fact the doesn’t sleep much, he rarely gets prophetic dreams, if at all.
Mousepaw on the other hand had always wanted to be a medicine cat. Ever since she was a small kit she hated fighting and confrontation which made her more interested in taking the role of the healer. She often speaks in a submissive, mild manner. She doesn’t like loud noises and really likes the calm atmosphere of the medicine den. Her relationship with Spiderfang is kind of weird, as despite him being way older than her and supposed to be her mentor she is actually better than him at being a medicine cat. This makes him frustrated but at the same time sort of fascinated by the raw talent of this small she-cat. Mousepaw isn’t very brave and never defies authority unless forced to. She respects the warrior code not because she believes in it, but because she’s scared of the judgement of cats higher on the hierarchy than her. This submissive and unconfrontational attitude is subject of derision from the other apprentices that often call her “mouseheart”. As anyone would expect, she never responds to these mockeries.
