Reposted from @ebonymagazine Today the world celebrates the 200th anniversary of #HarrietTubman's birth. Harriet escaped from slavery in the South to become a leading #abolitionist before the American #CivilWar. She led dozens of enslaved people to freedom in the North along the route of the #UndergroundRailroad—an elaborate secret network of safe houses. Tubman was active in the Civil War, serving as a nurse, scout, and key adviser for the Union army. “We must in our homes, in our communities and our cities, we must stand up and represent the legacy of Harriet Tubman that allows each one of us to take personal responsibility as well as a community responsibility to be able to help one another to live a life that is of freedom and thriving," said Reverend Paris Price of the Harriet Tubman Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Auburn, NY. Thank you, Harriet! #movingblackforward #ebonymagazine 📷 : Library of Congress https://www.instagram.com/p/CbIicF_rI3i/?utm_medium=tumblr
