HOW TO MOW PATTERNS ON YOUR LAWN
Everybody wants to have a beautiful lawn.
It can be quite easy if you have cool-season grass.
Here's a few lawn mowing pattern techniques and tips to transform your lawn into a masterpiece.
What you need to know
It's all about the way light reflects on the grass.
Stripes are made by bending the blades of grass in different directions.
When they bend away from you, the grass seems lighter as light is reflecting off the wide length of the blade.
When they're bent towards you, it appears darker as you're looking at more of the tips of the blades and the shadows under the grass.
Patterns
Before you start mowing decide on the pattern you want.
Most common are: regular and plaid stripes, diagonal stripes, and checkerboards.
Also make sure you have the best riding lawn mower.
When mowing
You should always make sure that you're mowing in a straight line. You can start by mowing parallel to a sidewalk or driveway.
To make sure you're mowing straight look at the ground 10 feet from you in stead of the one right before you.
Riding lawn mower reviews advises that at the end of a row you lift the deck the mow in the opposite direction.
Striping
Here you attach a roller to the back of your mower that will press the grass to the ground as you mow.
Regular stripes and plaid stripes
First mow the perimeter of your lawn. Next, mow back and forth in opposite directions through the whole lawn.
At the end of each row, take a "Y" turn to reduce turf damage.
At the end you can go over the perimeter one more time to cover up any offsets in the pattern. to turn regular stripes into plaid stripes mow straight lines back and forth against the direction of the entire lawn.
Perfect it by going over the perimeter again.
Diagonal pattern
Follow the steps above but mow in a diagonal direction to your previous pattern.
Checkerboard pattern
First mow the perimeter. Next mow in opposite directions.
Finally mow at a 90-degree angle to the previous directions.
If you were mowing North and south now mow East and west. you can go over the perimeter again to perfect it. Riding mower reviews show that the height you cut the grass will affect the striping intensity.
Cutting it short will lessen the stripe as the shorter blade of grass reflects less light. You should also vary the mowing patterns every two to three weeks to maintain healthy grass.
