re: switching to firefox, i need an extension for language input/keyboard (so typing out romaji on my keyboard -> converts it to japanese characters; or drawing characters onto a pad) to replace google input tools.

the "google input tools for firefox" extension apparently straight up doesn't work.

i found one for japanese but it disappears when i add it so idk what's going on there ;;

hayakuchi also doesn't look like what i want, since it doesn't appear to be have live conversion of what you're typing, but replaces it as some kind of copy/paste tool.

Google Search is now Google Gemini 3.5 Flash Search

That means that all searches as of today (Tuesday, May 26, 2026) are being run through Gemini’s latest model on both the input and output sides, regardless of previous opt-in or -out preferences

Here’s what you’re going to do:

Download and Install Firefox Mobile

Open the 3-dot Menu

Tap on “Settings”

Go to “Search”

Under “Alternative Search Engines,” tap “Add Search Engine”

Name it however you’d like and enter this: https://noai.duckduckgo.com/?q=%s&noai

Tap “Save”

Back in the “Search” menu, go to “Default Search Engine”

Tap on the newly added DuckDuckGo

Back in the “Search” menu, you’ll see Google enabled in your “Alternative Search Engines” - disable the toggle to remove Google results

does anyone know if there's a firefox browser extension that lets you use emojis? i'm trying to make the move from chrome to firefox and i'm going to have a crappy time if i don't have emojis at the ready

edit: i found one. it's embedded into the extension toolbar, so i'm going to have to get used to not right-clicking to add something. AND even when you're inserting something directly into a text post it automatically copies it to your clipboard - so if you have something else in your clipboard, say goodbye to it lmao hopefully i can figure out a way to disable that...

edit edit: 👍i figured out how to disable it 👍but yeah dude the muscle memory of right-clicking then clicking "emoji" is really embedded. i hit undo on autopilot when i tried at add that second thumbs up 🤦‍♀️
