defeated
When I was finishing up my undergraduate degree and came to realize that I hadn’t done as well in school as I maybe should have. The film and photography industry is all about showing people what you can do, they need hard proof that you are up to whatever challenge they are hiring you for. I fell short of a lot of people expectations - which as someone who thrives off of outside validation that realization was like a sucker punch. Before D-Day I was working on a “documentary” series about “haunted” houses and I was just existing on auto pilot. Defeated is an understatement, I didn’t feel like I deserved to be working in my industry at all, let alone on a worth while project.
As much as D-Day took away from everyone, it did give me one thing; the ability to see my self-worth. I came to realize you don’t have to live your life defined by past mistakes - who you were years, days, or even minutes ago does not have to be who you are for the rest of your life.
