Papercuts || Marlene & Sirius
"Oi, Evans!" Sirius called out during breakfast one morning. He leaned forwards, his mouth full of chewed up toast as he spoke. "Where’s your blonde sidekick? She didn’t drop out did she? Tsk, never thought she’d be the teen pregnancy kind of girl." He shook his head with a sly grin, his posse of girls giggling to each other as if it was the funniest joke he’d ever told. Then again they would find it hilarious that he was to insult the girl they almost "lost" Sirius to.
In truth Sirius was almost worried that he hadn’t seen Marlene around at all. Normally he could spot her from miles away, no matter how many blondes were around. He almost winced at the dirty look Lily threw him and knew immediately whatever points he had won with visiting her when she was at home he had just lost.
"She’s at home yes," Lily spoke, her nose in the air. "Which you would have known the reason for if you were the good friend you are supposed to be." Her tone was accusing and made Sirius wince. "If you must know so badly, her brother is ill and there’s no one to take care of him so Marlene had to go home. Don’t speak with your mouthful, it’s disgusting and you look like a dog."
Oh. Sirius almost went red in shame, shaking his head with a scoff as he shoved the last piece of his marmite on toast in his mouth and got up. “I didn’t need to know because I don’t care,” he mumbled, spraying crumbs over his fangirls and making his way out of the great hall as quick as he could without looking suspicious.
The dark haired young man dodged people who wanted to talk to him, almost tripping over his robes several times to get to the owlery. Man he had been such a nob. Sirius could smack himself almost even in the nuts for being so insensitive.
McKinnon,
I heard about the mini you. Is he okay? Are you okay?
B.
Marlene
I’m sorry, okay? I was being a prick. I am being a prick. Come home and talk to me. I promise I can explain everything. Just make sure you keep this letter to yourself.
The knob.
