How would the relationship between Kenshin and Tomoe progress if she wasn't killed, in your opinion?
They would have stayed married, continued to grow even closer. Kenshin already loved her with everything he had and she was also getting to that point too. they would stay in otsu, and Kenshin would have Tomoe stay there as he did his work, returning when he could. Always bringing gifts, and food and always sent most his earning home to her.
It’s hard to be away, but he needs to make sure all this killing was worth something. His mental health continues declining but now Tomoe is there to also help him buffer it a bit.
After the war he moves back to Otsu full time and resumes his job as a medicine man, even taking up apprenticeship under a doctor. He spends all the time he can with Tomoe, who eventually convinces him to let her write about all this.
They eventually have kids, first born a daughter and Kenshin is a doting father to be. Anxiety causing him to worry endlessly about his wife and pretty much try and do everything for her, especially since she seems super ill throughout the whole pregnancy.
But she comes, and he’s happy, and eventually, they have two more. they seem like a good happy family, and honestly its the life kenshin always wanted.
